Lovely updateš
Bajaj will not let her live her life as she wants, she has to travel in car or else she will have the driver follow her on the bus. I agree with Bajaj, Doesn't Prerna know there are dresses apart from sarees which look more comfortable and conservative? Prerna thinking about his fit body.
Kukki said papaā¤ļø. The moment between them as a family is so so so good. But he has to screw it up again talking about them moving from here and she is full pissed off with his decision that she left with Kukki. He is worried and afraid to lose Kukki. But why can't he calm down and understand what he is doing is wrong? Prerna would never go back to Anurag. He is still stuck at the point when she said she can't love anyone else apart from Anurag. I like the ending. Hopefully, Veena makes sure he understand the wrong he is doing now with this question.
Nice update. Please continue soon.
Prerna was admiring more than his fit body š
Hey Mary!
As I mentioned before, I read the whole FF in one go and loved it. ā¤ļø
It's so engrossing and handles the complexities attached with PreRish's unusual matrimonial alliance with precision. Fictions based upon separation after RB releasing Prerna is something that catches my fancy with ease. The premise provides enough room for deep exploration of subconscious desires and unexpressed emotions.
I'm biased towards Mr Bajaj. But I must admit your Prerna is very likeable.
I really liked Veena's role in this fan fiction. She's so sensible and sorted. Why can't you guys be a part of the Kzk creative team?
All the chapters were deeply enchanting with a fair share of touching scenes as well as hilarious lines.
I'd like to mention that scene in which Rishabh called Prerna's name before sending her away and unintentionally caused hope to rush to her psyche before being shattered by what he did next. I could visualize her hopeful eyes getting filled with grief and shock at the breaking of her MS. Even then the dunderhead man didn't understand he has screwed it up.
Next one was the whole hospital sequence. The hug! ā¤ļø
And then the hug and a bitter ending in the office. I can go on.
Rishabh is dumb! š Can't the man behold that Prerna doesn't want to return to her EX? Moron isn't even picking up the signals. These stubborn idiots. š
I hope Veena's words knock some sense into him. Most probably they will.
So I can't wait for RB to woo her back. But I'm sure it's going to be a path full of struggles.
Hey mary

I love it when readers pick up on the little subtleties. That why I love hearing from my readers. Thank you for very much. I wanted that MS scene to be heartbreaking, something that cannot be undone. Glad that resonated with the readers. A surprise is awaiting all in the next part.
Superb one.
Waiting for bajaj reaction now.

Chapter 16:
Hi all, a couple of you have asked for an index. This story has no index. Just about every other page has a chapter or the end of each chapter has a link to the next.
Rishab looked at the ground as he took in Mrs. Sharma's words. He was quiet for some time.
When he finally looked up, he had a resigned look on his face that took Veena by surprise.
Rishab: No man wants to just be accepted, Mrs. Sharma. No man wants to be his wife's compromise, someone just settled for because circumstances worked out that way. I know because I compromised with Menka. She pursued me and she wanted to marry, I never thought I was capable of love, so I just went with it. It's not love if you settle, it's not enough. That said, I am fully aware that I am not entitled to anything because I was never Prerna's choice from the start. And I knew about the child before I married her, that has never been an issue.
Veena: We cannot change the circumstances, Rishab. But if you are in touch with your own feelings, then you need to figure out what you want from where you both stand today.
Rishab straightened in his seat: I put Prerna's happiness above even my daughter's, so that should answer your question. Maybe Kukki will never forgive me for this, but I tried to set things right for Prerna.
Veena: If taking off her mangal sutra was your way of making things right, you missed the mark by a long-shot. And you both need to STOP playing sacrificial lambs. It is getting tiring watching you two running circles around each other.
Rishab passionately: I saw her, I saw her with Anurag Basu everyday. She loves him and can only love him. This was the best outcome for her. (He got up to go) They will find each other again soon enough. They are meant to be together. And I just want to minimize the pain for Kukki, that's all.
Veena stood up too, prying deeper: And what about the fact that you love her?
Rishab flinched: People I love have a way of leaving me (he smiled), why break the trend?
Veena: Would you let Kukki walk away if she wanted to? You love her most of all.
Rishab's heart skipped a beat like that was a threat: Kukki is the only person who is wholly mine. She's not going anywhere.
Veena sighed: Fine, if you are going to be stubborn, I will go and get the child. You are making a mistake, Rishab, but I will not ask you again. If you cannot see that she has closed Anurag's chapter from her life and moved on, then there is doubt in your relationship and that is never a good foundation. You will think I am only trying to avoid Prerna becoming a single mother and that is not the case. You cannot see what I see; you are sacrificing the happiness of Kukki, Prerna, and yourself with your stubborn decision. If you are not okay settling, you could have tried to win her love the way you want it, but I see that you have no motivation for it. If Prerna is proud, then I am her mother, I will not ask you again.
Rishab looked down, feeling deeply chastised.
Veena went into Prerna's room.
Rishab paced the living room which he heard soft bickering inside the other room. Prerna's brother and sister-in-law came from outside at one point and offered him tea, but he refused. Prerna's sister was busy about the kitchen and ignored him as he waited, but her younger brother seemed to take great interest in joining Rishab and talking about everything under the sun. He didn't mind the kid, Rishab noted a sarcasm in the kid that he rather liked, it was the sign of a deeper mind. At last Veena came out and told the others to leave the room - they did reluctantly.
Veena: I tried to reason with her, but she won't let Kukki leave. Not tonight anyway. Maybe I can reason with her tomorrow.
Rishab nodded, torn.
Veena: You are welcome to stay with us, but I wouldn't try to talk with Prerna if I were you (she looked at his bandaged wrist).
Rishab said thank you and sat down on the couch.
Veena: You can stay with Prerna's younger brother. I will get you some clothes.
Rishab shyly: I will be fine on this couch. (He forced a smile) I have practice.
Veena sighed: You are both too stubborn for your own good. Now come and have some dinner. I will bring Prerna and Kukki something later.
Prerna woke up in the morning to Kukki's beautiful little face. She traced the pout on her little girl's face. Pouting naturally, just like her Papa. Prerna's eyes filled. She remembered that look on Rishab's face many a night. For a man hardened by life, he really could pout with that upturned lip, he didn't even know he was doing it most of the time. It was adorable. Kukki had the same exact look on her face now, facing the sun. Rishab's mini-me. Prerna got up and drew the curtains.
Sadness filled her as she picked up Kukki's little pieces of clothing for the wash. Prerna's mom was adamant, Prerna could not keep Kukki without Rishab's wishes. And Rishab wouldn't let go of his daughter, no matter how hard Prerna fought. Ma was adamantly on Rishab's side on this. Prerna saw the logic in it, but it still didn't make it right.
She opened the bedroom door and found Rishab sleeping on the couch with the same expression as Kukki. Look at him, standing guard outside her room like she was going to steal Kukki if he wasn't vigilant. He really was the worst!
But a great father, her heart corrected her.
Prerna noticed that Rishab was wearing her older brother's pajamas. And she saw the bandaged wrist that her mom gave her hell over last night. Did Prerna feel bad about it? Maybe...just a little, she didn't know he was bleeding. But she didn't think he had to come show it to her mom, did he?
She picked up his clothes from the armchair.
Rishab woke up to a strange buzzing sound. He squinted. There was a washing machine on full blast in the open kitchen and Prerna was standing by it, glaring right at him. He sat up, suddenly very awake.
Prerna strode towards him and sat on the coffee table across, looking him in the eye.
Rishab looked down and away.
Prerna: What is this?
Rishab saw she was holding the mangal sutra he's been carrying around in his pocket.
He didn't say anything, embarrassed to be caught with it.
Prerna's beautiful Bengali eyes were on fire: Always prepared, huh? Who knows when you might run into your third wife!? Why waste a mangal sutra when you can just recycle it?
Rishab winced. That hurt more than her nails. He could feel his eyes prickle.
Veena interrupted: Priyu! Stop torturing him and come back here! What an awful thing to say!
Prerna whispered angrily to him: You couldn't tell me Ma was right behind me? Now you have to be the victim too? Unbelievable! (She smacked the mangal sutra on his hand and walked back to her mother).
He sighed and got up to get Kukki from Prerna's room as Prerna and Veena bickered in hushed voices in the back kitchen.
Prerna snapped at him down the hall: Don't even think about it!!!
He stopped. He looked from her to Mrs. Sharma.
Veena: Go ahead, don't listen to her.
Prerna protested: Maa!!!
Veena: Don't be a brat, Priyu, she's his daughter. Not yours.
Rishab went in to wake Kukki and dress her. Prerna followed him in despite Veena's protests. This time Prerna's face showed distress.
Prerna: How can you be so cruel!?
Rishab didn't say anything.
Prerna: I have her clothes, let her sleep.
Rishab tried peacefully: Moving away could be good for her.
Prerna: No, it couldn't! You know what it does to a kid?
Rishab sighed: I know she will never forgive me.
Prerna anguished: And I won't either. Why are you doing this?
Rishab looked at her and said honestly: For you.
He walked out of the room before she could respond.
Breakfast was a tense affair. Prerna's family did not know how to behave with him now that he was somewhere between unwanted brother-in-law and divorced brother-in-law. They only one who took joy in this awkwardness was Prerna's little brother. Mrs. Sharma was polite and Prerna was breathing fire.
Rishab and Kukki were just about to leave as Mr. Basu walked in; to Rishab's chagrin, Kukki ran up to hug Basu. That's just what he needed, even his daughter liked Mr. Basu.
Anurag crouched down and hugged Kukki while looking at Prerna.
Rishab couldn't stay a minute longer. He picked Kukki up and walked out.
Prerna came after them.
Prerna: You are doing it again! Why can't you at least wait until I say bye to her?
Rishab turned around, angry despite his best effort: You will see her again on Monday, now go back and attend to your guest.
Prerna took Kukki from his arms and cuddled her: You are so freaking jealous, Rishab Bajaj, it's not even funny.
Rishab: I am not jealous!
Prerna: Yes, despite all that talk about how Anurag won't bother you and so on...you are jealous as hell.
Rishab: I have my own reasons for disliking him that have nothing to do with you.
Prerna: What are they?
Rishab's face set in place: I don't have to tell you.
Prerna: Kakababu is your father.
Shock registered on his face.
Prerna: You think I didn't know? The Basus don't know, clearly, about his past - you.
Rishab slowly: How did you know?
Prerna: Google. News archives. Once I knew your mother's name and followed the trail, the editor, it was easy after that, to put two and two together. She was a great journalist (Prerna smiled encouragingly).
Rishab: He was her boss. They were married for 13 years. He betrayed her as soon as he saw a better opportunity with the newspaper Mohini Basu's father owned. (He said with distaste) Maloy Basu is playing a character, he put himself up for sale to get Mohini Basu's father. He started off seducing her. He's a gold-digger and a child abuser.
Prerna: Kakababu has been nothing but kind to me. He has changed, I think.
Rishab sighed and smiled bitterly: Nothing really changes your opinion of the Basus, does it? The man abandoned his wife and child, never cared if they lived or died, lived his own life like a bigamist (Rishab took Kukki back), and all you can say is that he's a changed man.
Prerna: People make mistakes Rishab, doesn't mean they cannot improve.
Rishab: Except in your books, only Basus can make forgivable mistakes. I can't.
He walked away.
Prerna: That's not fair and you know it. I forgave you for yours too, I told you that when I left your house.
He stopped and was about to look back when Anurag came calling after Prerna. Rishab put Kukki in the car and drove off.
Rishab took Kukki to her piano lessons in the evening and came home to an empty house. Maasi and Tanvi were gone in some neighborhood party. He sat gloomily at his bar, drinking.
There was a knock on the door. He startled to see Prerna when he turned.
Prerna: I know, I thought I would never step in this house either. Kukki forgot her teddy (she handed Rishab the fur toy), she can't sleep without it at night.
Rishab crankily: Did Mr. Basu drop you off?
Prerna: The correct response is āthank you, that's very thoughtful of you, Prerna."
Prerna saw the mangal sutra on the bar: Do you really have no respect for mangal sutras, why did you put it on the bar?
Rishab snapped: If I didn't have respect for it, I wouldn't carry it around!
Prerna: God, you are drunk.
She turned to leave, but he grabbed her by the wrist and turned her around: Just tipsy. Why are you here?
Prerna: To drop off Kukki's toy!
She blushed under his gaze.
Prerna: I felt bad about yesterday. And...today.
Rishab, unconvinced: Which part?
Prerna: Look, I don't know what I was thinking, I shouldn't have taken Kukki, but I was very emotional. If you want to take her away, you of course have every right to...and I shouldn't have vouched for Kakababu, I do not know him from his past like you do.
Rishab let go of her.
She crept closer and touched his bandaged wrist gingerly with the tips of her fingers. He looked at her warily.
Prerna: I didn't mean to hurt you either.
Rishab: Don't worry, I thought you would do worse when you learned.
Rishab didn't know what came over her, but she stepped in closer to his high chair. She was not uncomfortable around him as he was around her. He was always hyper aware of her proximity, but he figured it was easier for her because she didn't feel anything.
She traced the contours of his face: Poor Rishab, all alone since 12...
He brushed her hands aside: I don't want your sympathy.
Prerna: I want to hate you, but I can't. Not since found out your history.
Rishab growled: I said, I don't want your sympathy.
Prerna: You are impossible, you know that!? Here I am, trying to comfort you despite all the stupid things you did and all you can do is push me away!
Rishab angrily: What do you want, Ms. Sharma?
Thoughts?
Uggggh...these two. .!!!When they will solve their problem.. can't see like them..
