Padma, Gurudut, the actor-director-producer, is considered as one of the greatest cine makers in India, at par with Bimal Roy, V Shantaram, K Asif, Mehboob Khan, Kamal Amrohi, BR Chopra and Hrishikesh Mukherjee. His cinema is full of pathos and pain – emotions born from rejection. Both Pyaasa and Kaagaz Ke Phool told the story of a sensitive person’s disillusionment with society. He was credited for introducing Waheeda Rehman to the film industry and the same sensitive artist was crticised for his obsessive love for Waheeda, being married and having children with Geeta Dutt, the legendary singer. Guru Dutt’s personal life too was topsy-turvy. According to his sister, painter of repute Lalita Lajmi (mother of late filmmaker Kalpana Lajmi), Guru Dutt-Geeta Dutt’s marriage was tempestuous. Both were sensitive souls – neither could they live with each other nor without one another. While many ascribe the presence of Waheeda as the bone of contention between Guru Dutt and Geeta Dutt, Lalita robustly refutes that. She agrees that Waheeda may have been his brother’s muse, but to ascribe the trouble in their marriage to her would be wrong!

But undeniably, Guru Dutt loved Geeta deeply, and adored Waheeda endlessly!!! Anyway, love is a difficult emotion to define. Padma try to listen to this song, sitting near a window looking at the evening sky watching the passing clouds while the cool breeze caressing your hair with a sort of mystic feeling !!

Padma, agree with Madi, I love Guru Dutt's films, they are not escapist fares but classics of Hindi cinema and delineate society's bitter realities in a heart rending way, simply love his films, he was an icon, his subjects may be depressing for you but they are so true of everyday life, the changing colours of relationships are the main theme in his magnificent fabric. His Pyaasa and Kaghaz ke phool and their songs too are unparalleled! Lovely song you shared with us,one of my favourites.
