GullyBoy Selected as Indias entry to the OSCARS - Page 3

It's a good film, and an honour to be the official entry but...., I feel like it won't be the novelty to Oscar voters that it was to the audience. Would have chosen Article 15 myself but heyho. Congrats to the GB team, hope they enjoy the moment.

Which were the regional contenders do u know guys?

I think this muvi has a fair chance.. I read someone's interview(dont remember exactly who) but the point put across was that.. y was Lagaan nominated and no muvi after that could make it.. Coz Lagaan showed a good engaging story very well with the songs entertwined in it.. which is Bollywood's speciality.. Article 15 is a good but gritty and dark film.. such genres they can find in any cinema.. how does it stand on its own and highlight our individuality as Bollywood.. Gully Boy was a good film and had nice songs which were appreciated by many international faces.. Also tbh, poverty in India sells in the west.. I think thats y the jury went with this combo.. Underdog Story+Songs+Poverty and its already doing well in international film festivals... So I think, if lobbied well.. Gully Boy has a chance..

All the best though. It would require some hardcore campaigning to get it noticed. Hollywood is diversifying at an alarming rate so Gullyboy has a definite chance to considered for a nomination. The movie itself is good but slightly cliché and follows a formula.

I guess the fear would be that jury would write it off because of the setting and Slumdog Millionaire.

The film has a nice indi vibe and could go further .. but Oscar nominations is all abt lobbying so excel will have to spend some serious money and time on it .
