Over a decade and a half ago, Aamir Khan was one of the first few actors who spoke up against the practice.
As the story goes, he was asked to perform at the Filmfare Awards in 1996, the same year he was nominated for his breakthrough role in the Ram Gopal Verma-directed, ‘Rangeela’.
However, when he turned down the offer, he also inadvertently turned down the chance of bagging an award for Best Actor for the same film, or so he was quoted as saying in an interview with Filmfare’s rival publication, Screen.
The award ultimately went to Shah Rukh Khan who performed at the awards that year.
Ironically, it was the same year that Shah Rukh tendered an apology on stage for admitting he tried to bribe his way into winning the Best Actor trophy.
Anyways, a disgruntled Aamir has refused to attend any award function ever since.

TFS...these r on the record incidents & facts...not just this artice but these things were in all magazines & newspaper showbiz sections for years.
Definitely all these big stars boycotted them forever for soild reasons.
As I said this one man army srk single handedly destroyed the credibility of once' worthy & once' well respected commercial awards, forever, or atleast until now.
I agree Aamir should've won for Rangeela. Anil should've won for Virasat. In 1998, Aamir in Ghulam and Ajay in Zakhm were better than SRK in KKHH but I think the best of that year was SRK in Dil Se.
I think SRK should've won for KHNH too instead of Hrithik. In 2010, Hrithik should've won for Guzaarish instead of SRK for MNIK.

Khnh was a well made movie but I found srk too melodramatic in it...story ki demand se bhi kaheen zyada sluggishly loud. & in your face type wala loud melodrama . imho.

Salman won Best Supporting Actor for KKHH while Bhikhu Mahtre was deserving

Shah must have bought it for his friend😆 KKHH hardly felt like a supporting role though... It was more of an extended cameo

Aamir jealousy for SRK was very evident he lost Dil to pagal hai (at that time the title of the film us Maine Mohabbat karli) His disgusting dog comment, cleary indicates his jealousy for SRK, though SRK was always humble and say i am happy on second number to Aamir.
But in that case Salman bhai was always genuine even in bad phase and enmity never did ghatia panti like Aamir
