All of them are nice yaar. Getting any animal home comes with its share of responsibility. As long as you are mentally, physically and financially prepared for it, you should go for it. Just like humans. Only difference, with animals it's a kid for as long as it lives. So you should be prepared to make that comittment.
Out of what I have seen and know of, dogs do come with a bit more share of responsibilities with all the walking and taking them out for nature's call and all. Cats relatively are more independent, but they too have their share of responsibilities. Also take into consideration the space you live in. Is it good enough to house a big dog. Does it have enough space for it to run about and all? Small space, more workout outdoors. Also get them in pairs (any of them). So that when you are out, they have each other for company, else they get really lonely.
Both of them need attention, just their way of expressing it is different. Cats show like they don't care, but they do. Dogs are just more honest and straightforward in their approach. :)
