An important characteristic of a song or piece in traditional folk culture is, thus, its dependence on acceptance by a community—that is, by a village, nation, or family—and its tendency to change as it is passed from one individual to another and performed.

i dont know how copyright system goes when it comes to folk songs

but proper thing is to put at least some sort of disclaimer that we have lifted this song ..lol

as i said she is not the only one..everyone has done that even in Pakistan.

how can one decide the ownership of a folk song which were composed by urban poets and tunesmiths, usually anonymously, and they often passed into oral tradition?

is there any written rule that only Pakistani punjabis have a right on punjabi folk, not Indian punjabis?

where did i say indian punjabis cant lift it and pakistanis can lol

anyone can lift anything...as long as they acknowledge it

it just looks bad u r selling something as ur own and making money ..when many in young generation do not know u lifted the song

and it holds true for everyone ..she got attention because she would make more money lets say than some small singer lifting it.

The one you posted is the original one (or to say the popularized one). Surinder Kaur was from Lahore who came to India after partition. But she was born and brought up there and then started her singing career in Punjab after independence. So most of all the punjabi folk songs that are made into BW remixes these days are originally folk songs that originated in the Punjab region before independence but now is a part of Pakistan. So when you try to check the original of these remixed tracks you will find they are all sung by old Pakistan based singers.

oh, ok then.

matlab singer ek hi hain par original or plagiarized depends on her native place. wo jab pakistan mein thi tab original, india mein gaaya toh plagiarized😆

folk music, before and after partition😎

Punjabi folk everybody can use. No need to pay royalty or copyright.

It goes for all languages not only Punjab. People change lyrics and style of most folk songs. Its normal across the globe.

Are people thatt level ignorant on this thread????
