Kumblangi Nights ( Malayalam)

A family of brothers who "dislike" each other. They all find their own path , which kind of unites them. All the brothers are unmarried and all of them in the end, find their life partner and one incident which unites them in the end.

Fahad Fazil plays a pyscho character, he was unbelievably good. He literally gave me creeps with expressions. How he unleashes in the climax was mind blowing.

The movie starts off slow and you wonder where its all leading to but it picks up slowly and then the amazing climax happens.

Must watch 8/10

if it were me, I would give all the NA to Fahad Fazil for his performance in this movie along with Vijay Sethupathi for Super Deluxe

Not seen Kumblangi nights, watched Super Deluxe.

Vijay Sethupathi is a class apart. Was moved by his story.

movie review---Crawl

Much of the movie takes place in the crawl space ( underground basement which has enough height only to crawl ) in a home in Florida , USA ; hence the name of the film . This takes place in a hurricane which has brought about massive rains that have flooded the crawl space . A father daughter duo are trapped in the crawl space with waters rising as it rains endlessly .

But the big horror element is that the hurricane and flooding has brought two powerful alligators into the crawl space , and the father daughter duo are in dire danger of becoming a meal for the hungry gators . Outside the house too the full area is teeming with alligators , as a group of looters who come to loot an abandoned ( due to the hurricane ) store discover as they become prey to the ravenous alligators . Similar is the fate of a couple of police officers who come to rescue the stranded duo ; they are eaten alive by the gators .

So it is left to the daughter Haley Keller ( Kaya Scodelario ) to rescue both herself and her father Dave Keller ( Barry Pepper ) from the water ever rising in the crawl space and the hurricane and the alligators hunting them . She is an expert swimmer trained by her father to never give up and has to mightily rely on those skills in order to survive . Finally when they have managed to extricate themselves out of the crawl space after losing a lot of blood , they find the area outside the house flooded with more gators . A little too many gators than what the audience can handle , don't you think ?

But the movie is genuinely terrifying , more scary than horror movies that contain ghosts . Because ghosts probably really don't exist but alligators do , and that's the difference . There were some moments when I wanted to walk out from the cinema hall out of sheer fright of an impending gator attack on an unsuspecting human . Had to hold my nerve to continue watching . It's dark and scary in the crawl space with the gators waiting for the humans to make one wrong move and be attacked in the rising waters .

The whole atmosphere outside the house is well created , rainy and stormy and clouded and totally flooded....floods that have brought the dreaded gators from their homes in the swamps . Also isolated because most of the nearby residents have left because of the impending hurricane . The gators looked more like dinosaurs from Jurassic Park to me , so large and frightening they were .

Photography is good but colours are darkish due to the clouds and rain and lack of light in the crawl space . Background music and acting is all decent . Movie cannot be called memorable but gives lot of on the spot scares and keeps you royally entertained if you like being scared .

Verdict---Good .

Three and a half stars out of five .

Super 30:

Good movie! Mostly hit the right notes for me! The second half with all the inspirational stuff got a little boring for me. The only thing that surprised me was that Hrithik somehow managed to look the part and his real life persona didn't quite seep into his onscreen character!

Oddball ( English)

My kids wanted to watch a movie, so after searching for a while tumbled upon this one on Amazon Prime.

Its based on a true story

Oddball is a goofy dog who creates a ruckus in the small town of Australia. There lives an old man who has a chicken farm , he dotes on his grand-daughter and his daughter who is a single mom.

The small town is known for its tiny penguins whose population is going down drastically bcoz of the fox hunting them down. The daughter who is in-charge of this, is on the verge of losing her job which means she has to re-locate to somewhere else where she finds a job.

The old man in fear of losing his grand-daughter and daughter devises a plan to get oddball to safeguard those penguins. Whether he is successful or not is the story.

it was a very cute story, well taken, perfect for a family viewing. Just felt so nice watching the movie. Very positive, beautiful and simple.

my rating 8/10 , def watch with kids

Grownish S2

The show is a good spin-off from Black-ish. It does a good job of addressing various social struggles and issues in college life, especially for black students. Compared to Black-ish though the writing and execution are blunt. Their punchlines don't always land to make an impact. Yara Shahidi carries the show with her charm. But she doesn't have the expressions and timing of Anthony Anderson or Tracee Ellis Ross who kill it in the mothership.

Notes

- I could never warm up to Luca and Zoey. Luca seems to condescending and self-righteous. They lack serious chemistry as a couple.

- I hope they address Professor Hewson more substantively in the long run. In the age of #MeToo I think they did a very poor job of unpacking Professor Hewson's relationship with Nomi. Despite the events in the season finale, I feel they let the affair slide.

iZombie S5

iZombie is a delightfully clever twist on the zombie mythos. A zombie solving crimes by eating the victim's brains is a quirky take. The show has executed it brilliantly for five seasons with hilarious results.

Rose McIver who plays Olivia - the zombie ME also adapts the personality traits of the victim. This lets her show her brilliant range of acting that would give Tatiana Maslany a run for her money.

Behind the weekly crime-solving, there is a larger story arc - the origin and spread of the zombie virus, the confinement of Seattle, and the stirring of tensions between zombies and humans. And iZombie executes the longer arc with a nice blend of humor and suspense.

Like Supergirl's conflict between aliens and humans, the zombie vs humans conflict that reaches fever pitch in season 5, is a metaphor for immigration. iZombie does so without the terms alien or immigration. The wall around Seattle and Olivia's role as a coyote smuggling people in and out of the wall is another clever metaphor. It makes an impact because now the confinement and humanitarian issues are not between nations - but within a nation. How cruel it seems for a country to consider nuking its own innocent citizens because it cannot stand the idea of zombies?

Unfortunately, the writing in S5 loses steam. The larger story arc often impedes the weekly murder mystery and dilutes the fun. The twists and turns of the larger arc feel contrived and forced at points. While the race for the cure was a thriller - the finale of the human zombie war was a total cop-out. It's like the writers didn't know what to do. The end is abrupt and leaves you begging for the answers to many questions. Worst ending ever.

I am left craving for some companion material - a book, a web series that fills in the blanks to the finale. Perhaps I should read the comic series.

Mindhunter : Second season was the best , interesting and entertaining , the Atlanta killer storyline , btk killer highlight are cool.Though the female lesbian storyline wasn't worth it.it was like we don't have much to do so do this.Waiting for next season and Charles Manson didn't do anything wrong.

Manhunt : unabomber : similar premises, where fbi develop forensic linguists to identify a famous anoymonous bomber , decent drama and I like the villain and his ideology , I think his literary works is excellent.

Dear comrade : Good film. Devkonda has a presence to him , have some problem that most South movies have , one being too long But it was interesting and entertaing.

Kjo did good by buying this , it will be a sure hit if he handles it well.

Game over : was okay , story was good and decent twists , I just didn't like there wasn't much meat in it.also the way it is shot using digital makes you feel like a movie made for TV or something , still one time watchable.

Blank : was okay , sunny deol did good but shoutingg at inappropriate place , story didnt had much , but the end story twists was likebale and executed decently.

Could have been more if more thrills was added still one time watchable..

Sisters brother : nice good Western with Jake Gyllenhaal and johaquin Phoenix what can I want more , plot is decent ,but character are good and intersting .

Read it as character piece to enjoy it more.

Also saw aandhi, Namkeen , some gulzar classics they are great , what can I add to them.
