its not like I'm being harassed in a train or a bus and he would fly down to save me, so what's the purpose? I love my brother very much but i have stopped tying him rakhi, it has been 8 years and my parents and relatives are very upset with me. high time we rise above stereotypes and forced rituals.

BUT at the end, I m not being preachy, this is something what i feel i can't dictate others to do the same. do what you believe in. Celebrating Raksha Bandhan also gives u some bucks and plenty of sweets..so that's good reason to celebrate otherwise hmm...nope

Ghanta regressive. What's regressive about it?

Where does it say that it's about Brother protecting Sister? Aapka intepretation galat hai usmein festival ki ke galati.

It's about sibling bond. Women/girls ties Rakhi to pray & wish for Brother's well-being. That was the original intent in mythology.

Indra's wife tied Rakhi on him before he left for some battle.

Kunti tied Rakhi on Abhimanyu, her grandson, before he left for Kurukshetra.

Bhai-bahen to hai bhi nahi inn stories mein.

I have no problem with anyone protecting anyone. Why is it [traditionally] just a celebration of the brothers? That's all.

Traditionally?

Are you even reading the responses. People have cited various Mythology stories about Rakhi. There weren't even bro-sis to begin with.

Toh kis traditions pe lagi padi hai aap.

The Festival is not regressive. People's interpretation is!

It's for everyone actually. But in my state, if once married women celebrate bhai dooj once then they have to celebrate it every year, something like that. That's why none of my Bua comes to our place to celebrate it because once done, they will have to come every year, which they can't manage.

That's a hard n fast rule. I don't believe in these rules though. You celebrate what you want to. Upto what extent depending upon your situation and practicality.

Like My mom used to go to Mama's house. Another year Mama and Masi's families used to come at our place. Some years if everybody is busy, then no bhai-dooj. For me, Any and Every Festival is about sharing good times and creating memories. That's all.

Khoon jalana bandh kar de nimbu inke peeche. Imagine, people have been living in india but they've no clue what is the purpose of rakhi & what does rakhi / rakshabandhan stands for. LMAO. The same people are too scared to reveal their own identity but they have to take every indirect digs at india and indian festival every time shamelessly by pretending to be a western. Real western will never take digs at it, instead they'il get fascinated by the fact , this whole idea of tying rakhi because that will be something new to them. I am not mentioning anyone here. It's just a general idea about whole SNS.

Are the ones who says I am not Indian, at least 80% of them are kids of Indian Parents. They have grown up in India culture at home for the most part.

Faltu ka nautanki karni hoti hai. I asked one of the TM here, that are you parents Indian. Chup. Ekdum Chup. Lambi khamoshi.

It's like tomorrow my daughter grows up and says, I am not Indian so I don't know about India. LOL. Like you didn't grow up in a household where everything is freakin Indian. That's a very wrong claim by some to just bash India.

Kuch logon ko bada cool lagta hoga aise banne main, thik hai na each to their own. I use to be like that some years back. since, i was miles away from the real mess, I use to feel so proud trashing other sub continents and their issues when i was very immature and unaware of the real problems. Now, I call myself idiot and stupid and what not for being like that. I guess, thats the maturity. loool

Fixed. Apparently each and every Hindu festival is deeply patriarchal, misogynistic blah blah etc.
