Everyone knows that being overweight is unhealthy. A large majority of fat people are also always trying to be fit and lose weight. So if an oversized bride is going to a designer chances are she’s already tried to lose weight and hasn’t succeeded for whatever reason. Falguni is nuts if she thinks she’s the first one to remind a bride to lose weight, and it’s really ridiculous to add that it’s not that hard to do so. So at this point she is being rude, and is body shaming. There’s also the added thought in her answer that oversized brides don’t deserve to look as pretty as slim brides. There are plenty of overweight people who manage to look great and fit beautifully into a designer dress because it was tailored to their body type. So for her to say fat girls should just wear flowy clothes kind of hints at her lack of ability to go beyond a certain frame. So that’s her shortcoming as a designer.

P.S. I’m expressing my views only based on this video. I had never heard of this designer before and don’t know how capable or incapable she is. But she is rude.

Sara clearly looks uncomfortable and smiles through it. And Falguni is rightly getting called out. The question was simple : what advice would you give a plus size woman. Why is the answer immediately about losing weight? Arreh. Fashion tips toh bhai. The interviewer dismissed the answer and asked again. Then she said tight clothes and a deep neckline are a no. Which is the only answer she should have given. Her first answer does suggest that plus size brides need to lose weight for some reason while choosing bridal wear which is complete bs if you ask me.

There is a whole lot of difference between suggesting someone lose weight for health purposes and suggesting they do so for aesthetic. Am on the skinnier side of things but still I won't let anyone lecture me on my body for aesthetic purpose. So why should it be different for fat people.

Weight gain is most of the time due to stress, negativity. That's why it's not easy to reduce weight for most people. They don't solve the core issue.

Also tall, broad shouldered people will think they are fat when they are put next to tiny petite people. So it's most of the time mental illusion.

a lot of girls here in USA buy clothes from thrift stores the ones for plus size women to show how big the clothes look on their body, why does no one say dress according to your body to them

.... but falguni was asked what advise would she give to brides who don’t fit the ‘conventional’ body type WHEN SHOPPING and she said, I would ask them to loose weight but subtly. What a genius!

Like.. WOW. If people can’t see the problem with her response, her attitude that in order to be a beautiful bride you need to loose weight, then that’s just embarrassing.

It’s just a the way the message is even imparted is so problematic, and always leads to more health issues amongst younger people who are so impressionable.

Sara was clearly very uncomfortable but I wished she just said something! She was suffering was PCOS that led to gain weight before!

I have so many folks in India thinking, thin = healthy. Everyone else is just overweight. The mentality has got to change. Healthy is healthy and that’s the only ideal we should aspire to be.

India is a weird little place. You see people get skinny shamed by relatives and society while growing up and then fatshamed by them if you gain weight as an adult lol.
