I mean to say that he kept telling her to calm down and not provoke him but she ended up doing so. He kept telling her that she should not keep poking and pressing his trigger points but she was too stubborn. If we think about his underlying anger and pain he could have yelled at her, broken the bottle or done anything more extreme. I have to say Hanuman Singh has worked way too hard to repress his feelings. He has great control over his emotions.

Strangely I also didn't mind his hand holding because of the very reason you said.. it was still in his character. He already said to Minnie in the morning that being a rough policeman he can hurt her thus he avoids the topic altogether..still he was patient..he told her four times..don't provoke me.. don't cross the line.. and then he held her hand to stop her.. even then he was respectful in his conduct..repressing his anger.. and when Minnie saw he was embarrassed to loose even that much..

Yes he has control over emotions but those emotions are really hurting him inside.. still he was mad at himself and situation Babita created inside even outside.. I don't think he wud have drunk till he saw her again nodding her head signalling him to stop..
