I didn't know that AirBnb was worst in NY and San Jose.
Not sure about San Jose. But NYC is definitely a shady place to Airbnb. I booked an apartment months in advance but when I knocked on the door, it was occupied by someone else. Worst experience ever. I had to find a hotel last minute. after flying straight from Greece and expecting to relax. It was such a nuisance. Airbnb refunded my money but that’s not point. Btw, that NYC apartment was owned by a retired cop. 🤦🏽♀️ I’d rather stay in hotels than Airbnb in big cities. It’s not worth the headache of doing last minute switches.
I applaud new York for strict Airbnb laws it's to control the rental market.
But scamsters are everywhere... As usual there are fake listings oland if reported owner can be arrested.
For a legal Airbnb owner has to be staying in the premises. Some other pointers as well.
And best youbcan check department on housing that wether that house is listed for commercial purposes.

That's really awful. I always had a decent AirBnB experience in Chicago so I was really shocked when host gave me wrong information for San Jose. AirBnb needs to be lot more strict in verifying the rental information.
