SRK. The actresses have well-written role in his movies.
Why actor? I would say director? It depends mostly on the director. Even there you will find how in some movies the actresses delivered a good performance or not. Must say Rohit led deepika shine a lot in CE compared to the other actresses in the movie. SLB has always strong roles for his actresses even if it failed in padmavaat but I don’t won’t to give the fault only to SLB. Zoya Akthar even if the part is really small you won’t forget the female parts not easily be it ZNMD or DDD and gully boy. Karan johar even in his movies the female parts are really strong. Imtiaz Ali it really depends. Who else?

script wise it depends on director. but most of the male leads (top stars) interfere in film making and manipulate/threaten the director/editing team to cut/reduce female lead screen space. majority of top stars dont want female leads outshine them.
Anil Kapoor is the GOAT when it comes to this topic. In the 90s he was the only one playing second-fiddle to Madhuri and Sridevi and allowing them to shine through.

I wouldn't necessarily use the word "allow" - those two talented women simply outshone him and other male costars most of the time. I doubt Anil was happy when people gave "his" films new titles, such as "Beti" or "Mrs India". LOL

In OSO,DP had a double role..when she was not on screen,he was talking about her.
In HNY,DP got 2 solo dances..and finale dance..and the Chammiya song was mostly her.No other hero will allow a junior heroine so many songs.
CE..ban ke titli was enough..also dialogues and that Thangaballi scene.
Sid mal.
Kyunki khud toh wo acting karta nahi hai.😆

A significant proportion of those films were remakes from the South whose rights were brought by Boney Kapoor. They knew it was all about the female character but they went ahead with the projects. Their strategy was "at least he'll be appreciated and get a hit out of it". It wasn't until Pukar (2000) that he started to centre himself in his films more.

I don't doubt the accuracy of what you're saying about the two bros' possible strategy, but he did feature as a lead in many films between Beta and Pukar, e.g., in Laadla, Rajkumar, or Taal, or 1942: A Love Story, didn't he? On paper, Beta doesn't scream "it's all about the female lead", either. Don't get me wrong: I like some of Anil's roles.
