Lion King Has Good Start - Hindi Releases Dull

Lion King had a good start with collections in the 30-35% range. It is the seventh best opening of the year if we count Hindi and Hollywood releases and the opening is a little less than Spiderman - Far From Home released a few weeks back.

This is a good result for Lion King as its a film where the target audience of kids and families will come on Saturday so it is sure to go up by a margin as the under 16 audience comes in numbers especially in the metros. The opening may be a little less than Spiderman - Far From Home but the first day can beat that film as this film can have better growth from late afternoon onward.

The Hindi releases Family Of Thakurgunj and Jhootha Kahin Ka were dull and its only about which of the two can do better as they are hardly likely to do well. Penalty also released and that film had no audience. The top ten openings of the year are as follows. Gully Boy is placed ahead of Lion King due to the wider release.

Yay! I watched both Eng and Hindi ones. While booking tickets I found out morning shows for English are more packed while afternoon and evening shows for Hindi are more packed. Everyone wanting to watch Lion King,please go for the Hindi version. Its better and more emotional. Aryan is amazing. Better than Shah and better than Glover! I just want this to be a huge hit for Shah! That man deserves to be so so happy!

The Lion King Has Good First Day

The Lion King had a good opening day to collect 10.50-10.75 crore nett on day one. The film managed good growth in the evening to get into the 10 crore nett mark and this will mean a big jump in business today (Saturday). The morning collections were lower than Spiderman - Far From Home but the day came out a little ahead due to better collections in the evening.

The opening day collections in NETT terms are the sixth highest ever for a Hollywood release in India and all the films above The Lion King are big action films. The first day number is a very good one for this genre as the first day morning crowd is not going to come in numbers for this type of film..

It is the eighth film from Hollywood to hit double digits and also just collected a little better than The Jungle Book in terms of NETT collections though GROSS numbers will be less. The film will score very well over the weekend as family and kids come in numbers but the test will come on Monday. The top ten opening days in India for Hollywood releases till date are as follows.

The Lion King And Super 30 Show Phenomenal Growth On Saturday

The Lion King has shown phenomenal growth on Saturday it collections set to be around 18 crore nett. The growth is looking to be around 70% which is unheard of for a film which collected double digits on the first day. The best for Hindi cinema are probably Super 30 and Toilet Ek Prem Katha but they were not at this level though it wont be long when some Hindi film opening over 10 crore nett surpasses this growth as the initials are getting worse.

The huge growth was expected as the collections grew well yesterday evening and the kids and families were always likely to come on Saturday but 70% growth is a huge trend. the two day numbers of the film will be around 28 crore nett. The growth in the South will be less as the film recorded very strong collections in Nizam / Andhra, Mysore / Karnataka and Tamil Nadu / Kerala on the first day. Nizam Andhra especially was huge on day one with 1.70 crore nett which was higher than Delhi / UP circuit.

Super 30 has even surpassed the growth of The Lion King though its the second Saturday compared to the first Saturday. The film could come out with growth of around 80-90% and is sure to cross the 8 crore nett mark. The nine day numbers of the film will be around 88 crore nett. The figures at many multiplexes in the metros have doubled from Friday.

I want to watch hindi version so bad...

I booked on Friday but missed the movie :(. Watching it today in 3D in few hours ...yay. it’s English... but I see SRK as Lion king himself.

It got mixed word of mouth though. General consensus though is that Hindi version is best of the lot. Might watch it on monday in hindi.
