Indians don't like to know about sex life of others. It's a private thing here. Talking about sex isn't a thing here but people here have sex, more than one can imagine. Indian TV shows will never show characters having sex on-screen. Most Asian cultures don't show nudity (full or partial) on TV shows, India is one of them.

It would be absurd to judge American culture by watching American shows. American shows don't induldge in showing religious scenes but people are religious there. Indian shows will show all sort of religious absurdity which we don't involve in to the extent they show. Similar thing applies to sex here.

There should be an Asian Boss interview asking Indians on how close to reality Indian shows are, just like they did for Koreans & Chinese.

I mean we have people of all shades here in reality but TV shows all have milky white actors. We wear all sort of clothes but for them, dresses are restricted. There are so many things one can go on about. Prerna's house has a car, separate big rooms for each member, a house as big as this & yet she is poor, helpless person in the family, access to best makeup for all members. My house has none of these & yet my govt considers me middle class & counts me in 20%tax slab. Everyone is same around here.

This show is not a fine example of what actually happens in India or South Asia in general. However, that doesn't mean that Indian TV shows like KZK doesn't send out subconscious messages out to viewers about how one should behave. For example, the sex scene between Anurag and Prerna. These are two young adults who chose to celebrate their love with sex. But, remember how Prerna actually didn't want to or acted like she didn't want to out right have sex with Anurag. I think she said something along the lines of "this is not right or this is wrong" or something like that. It's sending out the message that women, especially south asian women, should not WANT sex. Anurag had to initiate it and Prerna looked like she was just going along with it, even tho LOTS OF WOMEN WANT TO HAVE SEX. And Prerna shouldn't have had to make any justification, excuse, or give any explanation. You can argue that you didn't take anything away from that but your experiences are not universal. If they keep showing "good" women on TV rejecting sex, thinking sex before marriage is evil, or essentially get punished for having sex before marriage (aka the pregnancy), young women start to internalize that and shy away from making decisions related to sex. And you have to remember that a lot of middle-aged women watch these media who teach their daughters what they see. And contrast that with Komolika being shown to WANT sex, and her being a negative character, the point becomes that good girls don't ask for sex, cuz that's now how they behave. Unlike, Komolika whos negative and "bad" and constantly wants to get in Anurag's pants.

In addition, Shivani was also punished for having sex. Yes, being pregnant and "learning your lesson" for being pregnant after having sex the FIRST time? That is punishment. That's telling girls, don't have sex before marriage cuz you will get pregnant. And since pregnancy before marriage is seen as the unimaginable sin in South Asian community, for the last time, the two positive women in the show are being punished for having sex.

P.S. Nivedita had to get MARRIED to a guy because she was in a hotel room with him. Do we know for sure that they had sex? And if they did have sex.. she shouldn't have had to get married to the guy.. esp since we saw, until recently, she didn't really have feelings for him at all.

TM, amazing question. So we don't apparently kiss and tell. 😆 So, sex happens everywhere, that's why they always show the woman saying no, in like romantic sequences when in reality it isn't true at all. We supposedly promote sex after love, coz that's the right thing. But not what we practice. Coz what we practise is marriage + sex + love or no love who cares. 😆

India become the second most populous country in the world because in India 70% of people are below poverty line and they dont have proper education and these Tv shows they dont see . Their only motive in life is to give birth to more children so that earning can be there. They are uneducated and they dont understand this simple fact that by giving birth to more children they have to give basic facilities to each person. And these TV shows have nothing to do with real life.

How can someone compare this ? Like seriously? Ya in India population is higher not bcoz mostly people are below pov but due to some age old stereotypes that boy child is must . Next is lack of sex education. Bcoz mostly poor people are aware of their conditions that they won't be able to afford more expenses but many do so without precautions! And there are many other reasons on which govt and people are working but what it has to do with TV shows?

Ekta thrives over stereotypes. It's same with all of her shows & heroines. This woman lives on extremes.

Her current shows will not show family planning at all, Women going for abortion when child is not wanted & No sex with protection.

Family planning is integral to most urban households in India in modern times but not in Ekta world. Women in reality go for abortions when they don't want the child. I have been the witness to this phenomenon in govt hospitals. Couples do talk about these things in relationships in big cities. Take in contrast, Sonakshi & Dev convo in KRPKAB rightly depicting modern couples where they talk about sex before marriage on video call & Sonakshi leads the sex by planning a date at first time when Dev gets too upset because of her abstainance during fasts. Sonakshi was never shown to be shy about it. Ekta rarely does it-she did it with Jodha, Priya & Palak in her recent shows. Jodha was shown to be wanting sex, same with Priya & Palak, both of them are from modern times. Even Prerna 1 was way ahead of her time.

It is absurd to not use protection & then go berserk when one gets pregnant, especially in cases of women like Shivani & Prerna who have access to all the information in the world but still won't use it in today's times. Even with protection, it can fail & pregnancy is a very natural phenomenon if ovum & sperm get the chance.

Basic biology lessons are taught in schools in Biology class in 8th standard & Internet is actually used by this generation to gather knowledge about this stuff. Prerna is 22, Shivani is younger than her. I am of Prerna's age in a tier-3 city & we were taught bio lessons & I know of no one who is ignorant about this stuff. Prerna is living in tier-1 city of the country in a well-to-do household.

We like to think that Indian public is still as stupid as it was. But things have changed on ground. But Ekta shows are still living in rural 90s when even they have shown progress & that's evident from decreased fertility rates.
