I always felt Shoojit took the story of Ashima of Vicky Donor and her Baba and changed a little bit to fit Piku. So yeah Yami would have been a great choice.

Though I am not a fan of Dipu's acting but I still can't imagine a better Piku than her. Loved her every bit in that obnoxious, irritable and yet relatable bong character.
Can't even imagine anyone else playing that role. Must say Shoojit has extracted far better out of her than the overhyped SLB.
Piku one of my favorite movie ❤️. Deepaka was brilliant as Piku 🙌❤️
Kangana, Rani or Konkona Sen..
Even Anushka or Sonam would have done a better job than Deepika.
Thank God that wasn't the case or we would have had piku delivering her lines in a princess singing in her lala land manner..that atrocious dialogue delivery of hers alone would have killed the movie and the character
also doubt she would have been able to be this subtle yet bring out various shades of piku that well..
also doubt her pairing with irfan be that amazing as it was here
deepika was brilliant in the movie..and if people found her annoying or obnoxious somewhere in the movie..she only played her part to the T coz piku was not a very pleasant character ..she was all those things plus so much more which deepika brought out on screen ..oh so well!!
I dont really care about accent. But Bhaskar was an irritating character. His dialogues did not make any sense..they were all meaningless most of the time. But that's how it was supposed to be. However I liked how open minded he was about certain things.
The actual attention was on Piku and her feelings. I loved her character.

Absolutely. Unpopular opinion but I feel AB sr overacted as Bhaskar and he didn't get the accent right either. I m generally non fussy about accent but given Amitabh's history with Bengal (he resided in kolkata too) and his extraordinary calibre as actor I m bit surprised how his accent got wrong 🤔

Nothing about the way the character is written. Like Charaiveti said even I can totally identify with that fussy, irritating yet open minded bengali elderly character.
I thought AB sr overdone it. Both Piku and Rana were noisy yet Deepika and Irrfan made them endearing.. I feel AB sr was not that effective in that matter
that's most bengali elderly people 😂 irritating when u first meet them, slowly u understand they're quite open minded n endearing, but very stubborn tooOriginally posted by: KrishnaKeshava

Well I think every generation has its pros n cons. Older generation of our country definitely struggled more in a nation that was in the process of being built. But not everything about them is likable though.
