Neeru is soo adorable. She is stuck between a rock and hard place. She doesn’t want to miss being part of what might be her only grandchild. Sweet of her to bring sweets sarees and also tying one for Sam.

Unconventional…

She was too tired to go to anybody’s that night, they lit diyas all around the lobby and steps and by the gate and burned a few fire crackers he went out and got

“U think my mother was here to feel the air?” he asked as she lay on the couch draped in the peach saree his mother had bought and she was too tired to wear

“I don’t know,I wont speculate Avi, you have your Mom visiting My Mom kicked me out after coffee”

“Don’t think about that”

“Lets not talk about why your mother would want us married”

He nodded

But Neeru had hugged him and wept out on the street

He had noticed a marked dip in her enthusiasm toward the end of the evening

“What happened?”

“I was hoping u will use the opportunity to propose to her”

“WHY?”

“She is going to be a mother beta”

“She is happy Ma…. Don’t complicate things PLEASE”

“She seems nice”

“U accepted her… or the child don’t know which today and u want things to happen right away?”

“Galat kya chaha humne?”

“Nothing…but we never talk about it”

“U MADE A BABY beta”

“It just happened… I told you I was in charge of protection… and I sucked at it much like everything else” he laughed though

“I am happy… I will see a baby now” she smiled joyously

“Welll I guess I did good then?” He craved for acceptance from his parents

He didn’t get much…. Its hard to have a over achieving younger brother and lose in love and in professional pursuit

“I am going to keep this secret from Dad… I am going to see her as many times I can”Neeru whispered

“Shes all yours” he grinned

“Keh to aise rahe ho jaise…” his mother stopped

“Haan…she is not my wife… but she lives in my house and I am attracted to her” he smiled

He waved as his mother’s car pulled away, she had driven herself today, for fear the driver may spill the beans

“Mothers want that” Avi returned to the present…. yawning stretching on the couch

“Everything about us has been unconventional, Brig Mitra once said “U haven’t allowed the world to get under your skin, always keep it that way” Samidha smiled fondly

“U haven’t…”he smiled

“We agree too much and compliment each other too much, this is just too compatible” she chuckled stretching

“Unless we are talking about Toast”

“Yes he was a good boi today” she admitted

“My mother hates him”

“We have that in common” she cackled

“Your mother doesn’t hate you” he insisted

“She couldn’t bear to make eye contact with me in the kitchen Avi”

“Hmm”

“She was startled when I asked her for the leftover chitranna” she said sadly

“Ouch” he felt terrible

“I know”she nodded trying not to cry

“Tell me how to make it I will”

“Its just lemon rice”

“Flavored?”

“Yeah you garnish with curry leaves and peanuts and mustard and squeeze juice on the rice”

“Wow”

“I loved having that with home made ground rice flour crunchies”

She told him about her childhood and how Shivu fell off the terrace once trying to grab a guava branch that gave away, falling on the concrete window shade of the 1st floor

“He hates me so much now… I held his right hand for a whole two hours as he lay on that narrow concrete ledge”

“Cud u pull him up?”

“Have u seen him? He was CHUBBY… My arm was hurting for two months” she giggled

“I have seen him… hes skinny now”

She smiled fondly

“I love him Avi”

“How could you” he teased as she looked at him in shock

“Hes my Toast” she said

“But doesn’t need to run in the park to pee” he laughed hysterically

“Oh he has… many times” she said seriously

He laughed harder

She was most certainly in love.......… she nodded to herself ogling at him

Unconventional…

Love love love these two. She is falling for him slowly but surely ! What’s going on in his mind.

He keeps everything light including the protection 😂😂😂

Avi and Sam - pls don't stay hung up on the past. You survived all the crap that life threw at you and that is the most important thing at the end of it all!

I wish I had fun plans for the summer - need to have surgery and recovery is 6 weeks! So I guess I am not going anywhere until August!

I am going to be checking for updates every day Nisha!!!!! 😆

We have no plans, I will just slog away, watch senseless TV Tamil and Hindi and English and enjoy the sunny weather

Another story idea is brewing in my mind (a desi Pride & Prejudice🤣)

I might start writing that after this one.

Hey Nisha. We were out the next day after daughter’s grad. Visiting and vacationing For the next three weeks out of US .Getting back home end of June. Visiting my brother in July again. Will also be getting my parents and my mother in law come September .

Hope your fathers surgery went well and he is recovering well. Pls do update on his health .

Desi pride and prejudice is sounding good. I think I like a bit of spice and Tashan in the stories. I am also open to an open ending in stories such as this one. The world keeps evolving and so do people. Endings practically are open to interpretation and your stories have always made me form my own closure to each one of them.

Have a great summer doing all the things you want to do or don’t want to do.

Hey Jas,

Great to have family for grad. Couldn’t get my parents or my mil for ours. As it was more ideal to get them this sept/ oct. Will have them visit her in her college when they get to the US. My parents 50th wedding anniversary is coming up and waiting also for my brother to recover for 12 weeks at least to do a big family trip . Touch wood.

Enjoy your trip to India. Sounds hectic like u said . Sarojini nagar and Lajpat nagar for street shopping in Delhi. For food, any place in Delhi is good. Khan market is known for its food. Shopping in Jaipur is also awesome. You can try pick up gem stones , kundan and the works .

Hey Nisha. On the movies, the only ones I saw were the ones in flight . Nothing worth mentioning. I feel I have got out of touch with the music. Have to get back to it.

A couple of remote places that we are visiting and WiFi in general is not too great. I will of course get back to the pages when network is good.
