Yes they are from the same pind but are not related. Prithviraj kapoor helped Surinder a bit but it was Shammi's wife geeta who patronised him. He was her secretary till her death and managed her work. She encouraged him to learn different aspects of film making and often encouraged him to make movies (it is said she helped him a lot financially too) on her recommendation did Surinder Kapoor got the job of an assistant director on mughal-e-azam. He continued working on it despite the delays to honor the commitment given to her (geeta passed away while m-e-a was still in the making)
