It's unbelievable how you recollect something that has no bearing on the story and then try to make sense of something taking into account the above-mentioned things. And I love how you read the unsaid. I hadn't picked up on the guilt she must be feeling.
Okay, you have convinced me to give Khushi the benefit of doubt. For now, I shall let it go.
Somehow, I feel more empathetic towards Arnav's pain. Maybe it is because somehow he has always come across as a person who has always stood apart from everyone else. Maybe it is the way he perceives himself or maybe it is the way he carries himself. But in making him the leader, everyone seems to have contributed to his loneliness. Just imagining him having to go through what he would for sure consider a betrayal (another one at that) is breaking my heart.
As you all probably know, I am not one of those who only wants and expects good things in a story. That would make for (IMHO) a very boring read. I love the way Khushi has been characterized. She is confused and flawed which is how any woman with her kind of upbringing would be. The way these two enigmatic characters gravitate towards each other and how they are going to navigate the murky waters of their relationship is what has hooked me to this story. Circumstances of Payal's death come a distant second. As always I am more interested in the frailties and complexities of the human psyche more than any other external intrigue😊
I get where you’re coming from. That loneliness of his, someone who is there for everyone but does he have someone who gets his back? Manav is trying what he can.
They both are strong in some ways, the dysfunctional background has seen to that, they can take care of themselves, fend for themselves. With her I feel she’s been the caregiver for her mother, not just materially but emotionally too. There was something sad when she said she hasn’t had a vacation in ten years. That would be the trip to Udupi all those years ago. The years between Payal’s death and her parents divorce, wouldn’t have been easy. With him he did escape in a way when he was in the US. He’s financially made it on his own, doesn’t need his father’s wealth. For him to stay true to his word to his mother in spite of his feelings towards his dad is the main thing he’s battling. With her she has compromised with her career when she moved to madras. Her life has been more unstable that way. Kindred spirits in many ways hence that pull towards the other.
