In the city to promote a brand of watch, Karan Johar or KJo, as he is fondly called, willingly poses for the camera. "Although this is my first visit to the city, I've a lot of family friends here who are Mehtas, Shahs, and Patels."

Currently, the glam director is busy working on his next 'K' venture titled Khan, starring his favourites — Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol. So, will that also be shot abroad, like all his films? "Khan is about the intrinsic events of the character's life that take place in America, so the film has to be shot there." Dispelling rumours that the film is without songs, Karan says, "I can never make a film without songs. The only difference is that there will be background songs in the film and no lip syncs."

From the mushy Kuch Kuch Hota Hai to the highly debated Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, criticism has always been a part of Karan's career. "I have made a lot of movies over the years and would like to be known more as a filmmaker than anything else. As a director, I would give myself 6 out of 10. I'm not being humble but true. My films are aspirational, with real people in unreal situations. And the audience loves to relate to them."

Having witnessed the film industry inside out since childhood, Karan feels great to be a part of the entertainment industry. After two seasons of having coffee with the stars on national television, the favourite host of people says he will be back soon. "I am taking a creative sabbatical now and concentrating more on making films. But I hope to be back with the chat show in a year or two," says Karan.

There are a few strands of visible greys on this young director's head now. So, how does it feel to be a super achiever at this age? "It feels great that people love you and expect from you. It's a very satisfying feeling," he says.

Successful and single, this good looking director is not planning to tie the knot anytime soon. "Why marry when I am happy single?" he asks, and adds, "Never say never. May be, someday I will get married, but right now it feels good to get up in the morning and find myself be married to my work."

And what about the alleged link up with television czarina Ekta Kapoor, we wonder. "Oh, they are all rumours. I love Ekta and her passion, enthusiasm and vigour for work. It's just a joke between the two of us that if we don't find anyone, we will get married to each other," he smiles. Would he ever make a television soap, then? "I am such a TV addict, I love to watch international serials. I would love to make TV serials. In fact, I would make my own Buniyaad someday," he signs off.
