Sonam K Ahuja shines at the box office

The year that went by was a memorable one for Sonam K Ahuja. While she tied the knot with her beau Anand Ahuja, she also delivered striking performances in not one or two but three distinct films, all of which delivered box office numbers. Padman', Sanju' and Veere Di Wedding' have made her a name to reckon with. According to film trade, she's fast becoming a bankable star. After winning a National award for her performance in Neerja, Sonam has established herself as a bankable actor who can shoulder a project on her own, comfortably. Her choice of films has been smart commercially and in terms of content. The actress will now be seen in the screen adaptation of Anuja Chauhan's book The Zoya Factor, currently being shot in Mumbai, and Vinod Chopra's Ek Ladki Ko Dekha To Aisa Laga' which revolves around a romantic relationship with a twist.
Talking about her choice of work and her long stint in the movies, Sonam says, "My father (Anil Kapoor) has raised me to be a feminist. When I came into the industry, I was shocked by the way things were. My parents never made me believe that I was any different from my brother. When I came here, I saw we were not paid the same amount as the hero, not given the same kind of rooms as the hero. People had that woh hero hai' mentality. In the 12 years that I have been around, things have changed, but a lot is yet to change.
