Good post Hiya :)
Tbh, I have had similar thoughts running in my head since the last few days but I was a bit hesitant in expressing them, because I felt that perhaps I was overthinking.
I won't say that the connect has gone. I still have that connect with the show which I had earlier but there's no denying that the writing has been below-par for quite sometime now. Especially considering the fact that the makers have planned the story beforehand. For a story which has supposedly been planned beforehand, its disappointing to see the storyline going haywire at such an early stage. Its only been 70 episodes as of now. Shows lose track at a much later stage, this show seems to have gone off the boil too soon.
Okay, coming to the characters.
I totally agree with you on Gayatri and Purva. They are fine.
I agree as well as disagree with you on Siddhant. Firstly, I do support his decision of keeping Anu out of the loop. Losing your father via murder is a huge thing and I can perfectly understand his desire for revenge. I think that's normal human psyche. I don't think his integrity as a character is lost to be honest. This is the part where I disagree with you. Coming to the part which I agree with. I totally agree with you on the inconsistency in portraying his emotions. We have a long dry spell where he behaves nonchantly as to suggest that he isn't bothered about Anu and then out of the blue, there's a sudden burst of emotions and we get a hearttouching monologue. As beautiful as the monologues may sound, it would have been better if they come more regularly, instead of a long dry emotionless spell followed by an abrupt expression of emotions/feelings. More consistency needed.
I honestly don't get Riddhi and Karthik. Riddhi is still fine but Karthik is beyond my rationale and comprehension. His character flipping 180 degree is a case of poor writing to say the least. Heights of inconsistency.
To he honest, I've always had a lot of hopes from Neeta's character. I find her to be an intriguing character and someone who can play a vital role. Her equation with Siddhant can add a very interesting dimension to the story. Unfortunately, they kept her away from the action for so long. Its only off late that she's getting some attention from the writers. I have hopes from her character and I would wait for a bit more time to see where they're taking her. But yeah, her confused and disillusioned portrayal is a matter of some concern.
KK is another conundrum. He's shady, manipulative and a control freak. He's manipulated virtually everyone to his advantage, at some point of time. But I agree with you on the dichotomy of his characterisation, when we compare him from the first 15 episodes and the current set of episodes. I would still reserve my judgement about him. I'll wait for a bit more time. Making a character complex by skillful writing is one thing and the character 'appearing' to be complex because of inconsistent writing is an altogether different thing. I hope this is not the case. I really like KK's character and I want them to write him well, which to their credit, they have done reasonably well so far.
I am disappointed with Anu. I can understand her hurt completely. But the lack of trust which she has on Sid gets on my nerves at times. The original issue between these two was lack of trust and communication. From where I see it, I feel that Sid has overcome those trust issues to a great extent. But that isn't the case with Anu. Their growth is imbalanced. While Sid has improved substantially, Anu hasn't. And she is supposedly going to 'guide' Siddhant in future. I don't see how she can do that unless she makes progress herself. I don't mind flawed characters tbh. Infact flaws only make a character more human and real. But what I feel is that Anu's flaws aren't because the writers are consciously trying to project her as a real and flawed individual, rather its because the writing for her character is half-baked. If it felt like a conscious and deliberate attempt from the writers, I would have loved it. And they seriously need to make her more rounded and multi-dimensional as a character. Giving her a solitary aim of 'romantic fulfillment by marrying Siddhant' makes her flat and uni-dimensional.
Vedant is a decent fellow but his emotions don't hit me. Not sure if its because of the characterisation or because the actor is struggling to emote. Whatever it is, I would love some improvement on his front. I do not support the theory that we should ignore his character just because he's not a lead. A good show prioritises every character and Vedant has been here since quite some time now. Either improve his characterisation or give him a respectful exit. His characterisation is just as important as any other character in the show, atleast in my opinion.
Okay, I've written enough I guess.
This was just my POV and not intended to offend anyone. Before someone wishes to jump at me,let me say this- The show is still very good and we might say that its still amongst the better shows on TV currently (it definitely is). But that would be trying to cover up the mistakes. I think that shows (particularly Sony shows) should compete with themselves and there's nothing wrong in expecting the highest standards from your favorite show. Especially considering that its only been 70 episodes. As I said earlier, this is too early for so many issues to pop up and its a worrying sign.
