The heir
Chapter 1: Grandfather
12-year-old Shaurya watched, as his father walked down the stairs. Harish Khanna had never been an attractive man, he had been wide in berth and dark skinned, with the face of frog. No, he was hideous quite frankly inside out, an abomination, he was obsessed with beauty and it showed in several of his remarriages. Which all ended one way or the other. He had first married his mother, an been incredibly smitten by her beauty until he saw someone far more beautiful. His mother had not been strong, when she gave birth to a boy the final straw that lead her to her demise was his disinterest in him. He had hoped for a daughter, a soft sweet daughter. Someone beautiful he did not want a boy. He did not want him. He had learned to live with the rejection early on in life, rejected from his mother, from his father. He watched his father, have affair, after affair wife after wife. A vicious cycle, wasn't it? It was a good thing he was rich, He had money, that was the only thing that attracted all the woman he slept with. Money was one of the main things that his father used to make woman bend to his every need.
Without money he was sure, not even one of his many bed partners would have given him a second glance. His father lacked manners along with looks. All 6 wives had been wh**es. Different types of wh**es, His mother had been young enough to think she was in love with him, but she too had fallen for power, she had been a stupid wh**e. Wife number two, had been far more beautiful, far more intelligent, she had pretended to love children. She had burned him many a time with the buts of her cigarettes, the marks all over his chest, had faded yet he could still remember the sick satisfaction she got out of his pain. She had been a crazy wh**e. Whose satisfaction ended when he did nothing, she grew angry and left with half the Khanna fortune. The third one had been a narcotic wh**e, who had used drugs to seduce his father, who for a time took a fancy to it. But when the drugs took away her beauty faded, so did her father's interest in her. And the fact her habit was so expensive, his father threw her out and the Khanna fortune further divided. And so forth with each wife. One by afterwards. It was expensive to pay for love, even the short-lived kind.
His father was dressed unusually well, Shaurya could not help but wonder if wife number 7 was on her way and shuddered at the thought of another wh**e.
"What are you looking at? He asked him, Shaurya did not care much for a relationship with him. He had stopped caring years ago. He ignored him and walked past him, Shaurya was an extremely gangly child. He was fair and never went out much. He never cared much for a life outside. Not that Harish cared much for him. He treated him like he was a lowly form of vermin.
His father reached out and his thick fingers grabbed his elbow so hard the book he had been holding in his hands fell to the floor. Shaurya glared at him, he looked nothing like Harish, he would always be thankful to his weak mother for that.
"You are nothing but bad luck boy. When you show me your face all you do is sour my mood. Let me remind you that it is who pays for the clothes that covers your scrawny body and it is I that pays for the books you read. He said irritated. Shaurya wondered how much longer would the money last before his father spent it all.
"And you are nothing but an empty shell of a man who is easily swayed by skirt He let him go. Shaurya for the life of him never saw it coming he backhanded him so hard that he fell down the steps. He had never raised a hand at him, and Shaurya had never spoken back to him. He had never felt the need to. Harish was a joke to him.
As he lay on the floor in a pool of blood staring at the ceiling his whole life felt like a big joke.
He had broken his arm, nose and several other bones.
His father avoided him like a sore plague after that. It just made everything worse. Shaurya never expected an apology but he expected some sort of reaction from him. Anything to prove that his father had something his chest, something!
But he received nothing.
And he slowly healed.
The school term began and being as fair and pale as he was the other kids mocked him. His father's relationships were something everyone knew about, and laughed about. His father could not keep it in his pants and neither would he be able to.
Did that mean he would have to prove them wrong by not falling into temptation? Why did he care about other people?
He stared out the window in his biology class.
"Freak He heard one of the kids snicker, it was Ajay Parmar, the only thing he had going for him in life was a jail sentence Shaurya mused watching him. Ajay was a thin tall, kid who was one of those clowns who had an answer for everything and made it his lifes mission to make Shaurya's life a living hell.
He ignored him, Ajay threw a piece of paper at him. Shaurya ignored the paper and just sighed.

Shaurya walked across the hall and felt a tug on his bag.
"Freak, just look at him. Khanna is a freak. He said pulling his bag off his shoulders. Shaurya fell violently onto the floor.
"His father sleeps with so many women that, he probably doesn't even know who his mother is Ajay said to his cousin Rohit who was a little older. Shaurya stood up and ignored the pain he felt in his arm and tried to take his bag from them.
"He probably has a std from living with his father Ajay continued his triad. Shaurya felt Rohit grab him by his collar.
"And if you hit him once all his bones will probably break look at how thin he is and he won't make a noise Ajay said excitedly, raising his fist to punch him in his face. Shaurya felt the bone in his nose snap. It was funny how Ajay thought that beating the crap out of him was funny and how people gathered around and watched like it was a movie.
Yet he remained silent. Waiting for Ajay to be done, nothing made people like him madder than getting no reaction at all.

Shaurya went home that day and saw an expensive car parked outside the manor. Who was it? He wondered, he walked in and saw his father was sitting opposite and old man with dark black eyes. Shaurya did not bother greeting them.
"Shaurya His father called him and his face twisted.
"What did I tell you Mr Khurrana, the boy is nothing but trouble. His face probably rubbed someone the wrong way His father said, the old man said nothing.
"Would you give us a minute Harish I would like to speak to the child He said, softly Shaurya was surprised that one of his father's guests wanted to talk to him and slightly weary. He pushed the straps of his bag of his shoulders.
The old man was dressed in an expensive suit. He brought Shaurya into the dining room.
He pulled out a chair for him and asked him to sit.
One of the servants came with a tray of cakes and sweet tea. The old man whispered something to her and she nodded.
Sweet things nauseated Shaurya. He was not allowed to eat, before supper. His father had ingrained that into his memory.
"Would you like a pastry Shaurya? He asked him, Shaurya shook his head.
"You don't like sweet things? Hmm?
"No
"That's ok neither do I He said, smiling, Shaurya did not smile back.
The servant came in with a towel and a glass of water.
"Why don't you put this where it hurts on your face He told him gently. Shaurya took the towel that had ice in it and pressed it to his head.
"These will make you feel better He told him passing him some tablets.
"I don't feel anything Shaurya lied. Showing people what you felt made you weak.
"Then take them to make me feel better, My name is Digvijay Khurrana I am your grandfather He said to him. Shaurya did not take the tablets and just stared at him.
"You are my mothers father? He asked him, the old man nodded at him. The throbbing in his head increased, Shaurya picked the tablets up and put them in his mouth.
"I thought you disowned my mother It was a fact many knew, that his grandfather hated Harish. And that Karuna had run away with him.
"I did, marrying your father was a stupid thing to do He told him plainly. Shaurya watched as he took a slice of cake and played with it, rather than eating it.
"Why are you hear now? He asked him.
"I haven't got much time left now and you are all I have left he said, reaching out and taking his hand.
His hand was old and covered in wrinkles. Shaurya stared at the ring her had on his pinkie finger with a K engraved on it.
"I want to prepare you, before I leave
"For what?
"For life, if I leave you with your fathers guidance you will probably become a skirt chasing loser and squander away the money I am going to leave you and my family name will not have a waste as a successor
"I would never be my father
"You are prideful and weak boy. You are already half way there, just look at your face
"You are wrong
"The only way you will be ready is if you live with me in these last six months. I filled your fathers coffers with enough money for him to take another 5 wives, for this time with you. So I want you packed and ready we are leaving this afternoon. I have already spent enough time here, breathing the same air as your father is nauseating
"I don't want to go anywhere Shaurya told him stiffly. He stood up. Digvijay shook his head at him, and rang a belle the servant was back in the room.
"Pack the boys things ask Awara to come and carry him. We are leaving The old man said throwing the fork back onto his plate.
