Does anyone know why Arnav and Khushi never let other members of their family know about their contract marriage? I'm sure a lot of misunderstandings regarding their elopement would have been cleared had everyone gotten to know Khushi was under duress at that time. Heck, she got slapped, verbally abused and mistreated for months by the rest of the family (Raizadas and Guptas)

I think Arnav speaks to Anjali briefly about not loving Khushi when he married her (lie 😛) but eventually fell in love with her after the marriage. He of course said this when Anjali was sad about seeing him give more attention to Khushi. But the full truth never came out.

Why do you think the CVs decided to not let this truth come out? Lazy writing?

The writers or makers could not let it out without more drama meaning more torture to Khushi and Gupta family.

Why did she let Shyam hug her, why did she hide the fact that Shyam is still pursuing her, why did Gupta family hide Khushi and Shyam's engagement, what is their motive etc, etc.

Generally Gupta clan and particularly Khushi have already endured so much and Janata would not have liked any more torture directed at Khushi and Gupta family.

There are two answers, I think so.

First,

CVs wanted to create unnecessary drama and misunderstandings, so they should start hating each other.This type of misunderstandings happens in every serial.Instead of sorting it out; they drag it in the belief that people would watch it, to know when will all the misunderstandings get cleared and the leads would unite.I am saying this because I had heard this statement from one of the interviews of 'Queen of Soaps'.

Second,

Since we IPKians have this unusual behaviour of studying the psychology of IPK characters, as almost everyone pointed out, the utmost reason might be Arnav's fear of rejection.Khushi was the first one who made his heart go Dhak dhak and his heart totally shattered seeing his love in other man's arms.As he had said, that scene got imprinted in his mind.So to hear the truth, (which according to him that Khushi too loves Shyam) from Khushi's mouth would be unbearable for him.So he avoided the confrontation.

I think according to Asr's point of view he was only seeing kushi in snakewa's arm and thought that she was n love so if he confronts her and if she says yes then there will be two broken hearts one Anjali next he himself. And also he was somewhat selfish in case of kushi if he there was someone other then k then he would have send her by giving money or threatening but she was his love , 1st ever love so he though thought she was culprit still he married.

Actually i dont think its lazy writing but instead intentional. No matter how much Arnav tortures K she never lets him down before both the families. Remember in the coffee house when Payal was bt to scold ASR for breaking her wedding K stops her sister coz she dint want Aakash to ve a bad impression bt his bhai whom he adores. They may fight in private but K never wants their family to hate Arnav. Even the day aft wedding when Nani & Anji r dng their emotional drama ASR is bt 2 call the doc coz Nani is ill & Anji says NO & asks Aakash to call. ASR is upset & seeing him upset even K is upset. Despite all his torture she cant stand if their families disrespect or insult him 😳

Another reason is of course how the GUPTAs ll react. Again phir se drama shuru ho jayegi. Also unnecessarily all the Shyam dirty laundry needs to get washed & rinsed. That's y as a silent agreement both Arnav & Kushi dont tell bt the contract marriage to their families.
