There are many things in life which forces us to see things with the discerning eye, than the eye that only reveals to us the obvious, visible and evident. For me though, in keeping with today's episode its seeing beyond the apparent, and significant, perceiving more than what meets the eye that ,holds more relevance. Within the title, the word, meet, which suggests, to congregate, to run into, to pay for.. itself is also significant and relates to events in the episode.
It's feeding the holy men at the grand mansion. Advay's house originally now fallen into the hands of all those he damns as his foes. All meets, with the expectations of pomp, ceremony and Vashist precision. Nothing can go wrong, the pundits are being served by the women of the household. But then there's more to it than meets the eye of propriety. Unseen the bearded dapper Advay lurks in the shadows ready for the show to begin. He hungers for blood sport.. of seeing coveted Vashist family reputation torn to bits. Thus soon the rude cat calls of his set up creditors sound at the doorstep of this prestigious manor. Advay allows his lips a crooked smile as restrained horror begins to form on the women of the household. Disruption in the proceedings is what Advay aspired for and that happens forthwith. The bouncer Ranjit tries in vain to thwart the creditors from boisterously demanding their money!
The delicate yet intrepid Chandni explains the stuff for the banquet was paid for by her. The creditors turn into bailiffs threatening to take the goods if the interest is not honoured immediately. This was not predicted or hoped for. The creditors, act according to orders.. Name Indrani! strip her of her prestigious titles and reduce her to the level of one who has to pay off the debts. Indrani confronts the man who dared to reduce her to the level of a commoner. Her reply to honouring her debt is a resounding slap on the creditors face. In response they threaten to gatecrash and expose the true face of the vashist's as nothing but quite the opposite they seem to be .. Paupers rather than princes!! But Indrani has streaks of heroism within her.. Which she uses to save the family image. Advay chuckles.. This is the opportune moment to twist the arm of the fair maiden Chandni. For its the fair maiden to begin with, he has to settle the score with. He watches her for a vantage point , for sixteen years he waited to direct his play of woe and sorrows. Her phone rings and this was not a courtesy call.. a scoffing.. that watch your grovelling family.. they fear more the loss of their respectability ,than they fear of death it self! Then a shirty command, she has no choice by to obey... Meet him at the terrace! .. She looked up and there he stood in her door way , defiant, and stern. She gives in.. And the director phones his unit to pack up shooting cancelled Indrani's prowess is lauded by Ranjit.. But she wonders... How easily and swiftly the creditors just dispersed.. Surely there's more to this than meets the eye? What with her husband with an erratic memory , its no surprise she wears the trousers in the Vashist household, so she is fairly on the ball..escpecially when it comes , being clued on regards, their family esteem
Meeting him at the terrace for Chandni too is more prompted in a bid to salvage her family honour. Bemused he peers at her from far.. yes she is the fair moon who he holds captive by his threatening spell. Advay knows her weakness.. her family. But Chandni forgot that he too may hold his long lost family's honour high up in my life. So high that their loss leaves him like a captive like her too.One who seeks nemesis from those who took his loved ones away from him.. muses Advay. as he watches her come up the stairs to him. The terrace was his demand. The top patio of the house..highest point or upper limit of having Chandni all to himself away from her family.. in the pits of her house where they even attempt to buy faith, as long as it sounds of their family respectability in the land ,both far and near! He knows food is served to maintain more than meets the eye..simple devotion.. it's to do with maintaining the Vashshit facade. Which he know has arrived to create fissures in.. and his weapon is the winsome , innocent Chandni..
It's hard for him to find that she knows that he is now for her, him who must be obeyed. Inculcate fear in her is his obsession. Finding her before him alone on the terrace in broad day light, provokes him to lean over her. He fills the gaps between them .She is weary of his nearness. So he scoffs at her ruddy cheek of being such a great actress, what with all her brought on innocence.. where as the truth that she hammers on about is.. that she is nothing! but one real life, lie personified! Chandni fears his body language , imposing and suggestive! His insults! And she cries out what does he want from her and why? He leans over her and his husky voice replies.. patience.. he's only just began! Lots more games he wants to play with her. his lewd sick talk makes her cringe and she moves away. His fist grips her wrist! But she shirks his hand and warns him not to touch her! but Advay's game was far from over with her and he calls out! its an evil world! He'll escort her downstairs. She flees like the prey! The hunter in Advay rises and he goes after her. There's more to the terrace scene than meets the eye!.. he watches as she runs down the stairs.. hot on her heels to destroy her reputation. He trips her, to deliberate a lurch in her chaste reputation! is quick to catch her, right behind her. rabba ve.. both on the stairs... a passage that leads one up and brings one down.. one moment in his arms is frozen. Neither up or down in time.. but then the instance unfreezes as statements are made , shocking evidence comes to light. Advay's cold eyes watch.. as he achieves what he wants out of the terrace scene.. Chandni's seemingly promiscuity!
Pundits question the outrage of the family daughter ,symbol of the family honour lurching in the arms of.. a stylish dapper city boy. All eyes expand..pundit questions a girl who has been purified to conduct the big veneration , should her carriage be so shameful?.. Indrani is mocked for Chandni's behaviour... the aunties stir and add fuel to the close proximity between Chandni and this man.. the fact they recognise him as the idol man.. anything to read meaning into the display before them. Chandni runs to defend herself.. that she went on the terrace to meet him, wanted to know what he wanted with her. But she never got around to defending herself. Some how he makes it look like she's lying through her teeth. His eyes sneer at her, as they accuse her of innocent guile. Advay enjoys seeing her squirming in embarrassment. He is asked how did he get in? he replies via the terrace. That causes a titillation .. as its an area top of the house..that hints of being a neat little space where lovers can easily meet. He is further questioned , How come he comes in the first place? Advay gives the final blow in his reply , Chandni sent for him. Again he insinuates to all, as if something is going on between him and Chandni.. and then makes a smooth exit. Totally humiliated with no leg to stand on. Chandni , felt belittled and unsupported. But Indrani points out an important fact that appearances can be deceptive. What seems to be seen as the truth can be untrue .The pandit did see a spectacle but, inderani uses her mother's prerogative and reiterates, there's hardly any reality in it!
But the truth of the matter is, this matter had to be toned down, as the feast for the pundits had to be finished. However Chandni's character is butchered one more time...by the vicious aunties. But her own sisters defend her.. who is the new bearded moon god in her life? Indrani like before stops the interrogation says she has complete confidence faith on her daughter.. and faith has no room for aspersions, mud slinging and degrading. She says her daughters silence, over rides what the man said... Chandni will never do anything to dishonour this family. So pressure is put on chandni not to ever step out of line and sell off family honour... it's her loyalty that is being milked off by the shrew Indrani..Chandni is used like a shield.
The Captive moon.. through the window scene. The day comes to an end. Advay and Chandni, both alone see the moon out of their windows and suddenly become preoccupied with each other's thoughts. Chandni recalls his words morosely, how according to him he fails to figure her out. Chandni cries out from within herself. The last thing she is a liar. She is as truthful as truth itself. So why does he think so severely about her? his threats make her fearful. Both stare at the moon.. Chandni .. rabba ve! Advay stares at the milky orb, because it's her namesake. But his bitterness rises from the pit of his gut and his heart cries out in anguish, rabba ve.. thou art fair like the moon light, yet your heart is as blemished as the dark firmament... Chandni, you are like the moonlight, but a veil that covers sad tales, Chandni , your pale light, stops the sun from reaching out to darkness.. Chandni you are naught! but an illusion ,a deception! Darkened of heart. That befriends the night, Chandni is guile, a traitor! Chandni is a riddle.. a mystery.. but now the night ends ,as the brightness is lit.. the inferno returns! now Chandni you will burn! Chandni, you will not be spared! Advay sternly muses, she will not do the big veneration tomorrow.. Chandni replies from where she is . She will have to do the veneration tomorrow for the family honour... Advay groans at the milky orb.. Chandni, this is just the beginning of your end.. rabba ve.. hamlet53 11.7.17
Quite a bold episode. Barun as Advay in his dark persona. A strange mix of revenge triggered hate and painful attraction towards, the winsome Chandni.. Reminds me of a beauty and the beast. Chandni on the other hand is cruelly picked on, tagged, loose character. Mind you not all condemn her. Her mother and sisters back her up. She will need to be assertive with her bearded man.. fearful she may be off him, yet she managed to lay the law do'nt touch me!! however , as Advay promised he will not let her do the veneration ,he will continue to hinder her from going to the temple.. continue to tarnish her character.
