Chapter 5 - Miles Apart!
Khushi's parents felt bad that twice Arnav came over to their house but did not even drink water! A super busy man, but still they wanted to respect and welcome their son-in-law in their house.
During Pag There ritual also Arnav came to pick Khushi late at 11.00 pm, they waited for him to join them for dinner and Nani ended up covering up for Arnav...
So Khushi's parents invited Naniji and Arnav for dinner at their house and Naniji could not disappoint her parents again...
"Garima and Shashi, we will definitely come... Don't worry, we love homemade food. If Khushi being your daughter cooks so well, we are looking forward to your delicacies... Just remember Arnav is diabetic so less oily and no sugar..." Nani accepted dinner invitation and handed phone to Khushi...
"Khushi, you also make sure to invite Arnavji again. And behave well with him..." Garima warned Khushi...
"Come on Amma, I always behave well here... I can't help it if he is super Akhadu Laad Governor" Khushi replied back immediately...
"Khushi, stop calling him names... He is such a well-mannered and nice guy" Garima really liked Arnav...
"You know him for couple of months and you know me for years... And yet you are always biased towards him... This is cheating Amma. You don't even know him properly but you are always on his side..." Khushi kept thinking how he manages to impress her parents... Or is it just because he is the son-in-law for her parents?
"Remember, you told me he is always busy. So make sure not to disturb his work doing your silly antics and help him if possible..." Garima suggested her...
"As if that Laad Governor will talk to me and will appreciate my help or anything I do..." Khushi muttered.
"Amma, can you keep my recipe books and notes in a bag... I would need them here to study and prepare for the Master Chef. By the way Naniji loves the dishes cooked by me..." Khushi excitedly informed her mom...
"You do cook well Khushi with all your heart... I am sure Arnav also loves your cooking... What does he say?" Garima asked in a teasing tone...
"Nothing, he just eats and runs to his work..." Khushi responded grumpily...
"OK Amma, bye... Let me talk to Arnavji before he goes... Else he will be busy at work and I will not be able to invite him..." Khushi bid good bye...
"Arnavji, Amma and Babuji had called. They invited us for dinner tonight" Khushi informed Arnav...
"Yes Arnav, come home early. By then Khushi and I will be ready" Naniji also confirmed.
"Nani, I don't know. I am too busy these days... Maybe you both go with driver and enjoy" Arnav politely refused the dinner invitation... He was least interested in going to Khushi's house... Khushi's face was crest fallen which did not go unnoticed by Nani but Arnav did not realize it...
"They called you more specifically Arnav, twice you visited them but barely could spend 5 minutes time so I insist..." Nani pushed it knowing Arnav cannot refuse her...
"OK, let me see... But don't wait for me... You carry on and I will come there directly" With that Arnav left for office...
Khushi was super excited... As expected her Amma made variety of dishes, sweet dishes with and without sugar... After all Arnav is visiting her house first time for formal dinner!
"Amma, you made chat also... I love Pani Puri made by you and other chats..." Khushi was jumping like a small kid...
"Stop Khushi, wait for Dammatji to come and we can eat later..." Garima tried to stop Khushi.
"Garima let her eat. Arnav always comes late so he will join directly for dinner..." Naniji allowed Khushi to eat and Khushi gorged on all types of chats happily...
Arnav showed up almost at 10.00 pm. He had called and insisted on them having dinner and not wait for him since he was stuck with work...
"Aunty, I don't mind coffee but I already had my dinner with client..." Arnav informed Garima and Khushi felt bad for her parents...
Arnav took a seat while checking his emails and messages on phone... He looked around and felt very hot so took out his coat and tie...
"Khushi, can you please switch on the A/C?" Arnav requested...
"It's on Arnavji" Khushi felt embarrassed. They had small A/C for the whole house so maybe he did not feel it. His room A/C is very powerful and keeps his room chilled...
"Ah, never mind..." There was an awkward silence in the room...
"How is the work going on Beta?" Shashi hesitantly asked Arnav...
"Busy uncle, it's always busy at AR with some or the other deal..." Arnav replied one liner...
"Uncle, I parked in the front. I hope its safe... There is no parking here so was not sure..." Arnav asked Shashi casually...
There he goes again... Khushi thought Laad Governor did not leave any chance to make her parents feel uncomfortable... Of course, his Mercedes is more important for him than her and her parents, she felt angry... What is there to ask purposely when he can see his car sitting inside her house? Can he ever be a little considerate, her face turned red in anger...
"Let's go..." Nani said looking at Khushi's face... She wished she could put a bucket of cold water to freeze her grandson's business minded and materialistic brain!
"That Laad Governor behaves as if he just landed from London from a luxurious boat! Does he not know how middle class people live or their houses are small with no parking, small A/Cs and basic amenities... What were you thinking marrying me to Laad Governor? All I asked was a nice, loving and caring husband but you gave me this arrogance...?" Khushi complained to her Devi Mayya...
They were back home to his chilled room. But it was too cold for Khushi that too without a proper blanket... And he has guts to complain about her house - amazing, she thought...
"What happened?" He asked her looking her lost...
"Nothing" She pulled her night dress and entered bathroom!
"Are you ok?" Arnav asked again seeing Khushi turning and twisting on sofa and disturbing him...
"Yeah, I am just missing my old friends at my parents' house, care and warmth" Khushi replied sarcastically... Turned around and slept.
"What the?" Arnav asked being clueless as to what she meant... He missed the whole point and didn't care to ask her anything further... He pulled his cozy blanket and slept on his bed...
Khushi was still angry about his ignorance towards reality of their lives and their marriage! She takes everything to heart when it comes to her parents... So she is obviously upset when his behavior that made her parents feel low or uncomfortable... And yet he didn't even realize it or he simply didn't care...
Not that she is always comfortable in his house but she is trying to fit in without complaining... Can he not do the same? And he has to visit her house once a while, can he not be a little nice and considerate? Who cares if he is born with silver spoon?
"Devi Mayya, what were you thinking when you decided to pair me with him...? No more special Prasad for you... I mean it... no more jilebis for you..." Khushi angrily muttered to her Devi Mayya and tried to sleep...
