TZP star refuses Screen Award

Darsheel Safary, who won many hearts with his endearing performance as a dyslexic child in the superhit, Taare Zameen Par, has created a flutter by refusing to accept the 'Best Child Actor' award at the 14th Annual Star Screen Awards.

In an interview with news channel 'Headlines Today', the young actor said he refused the nomination in the Best Child Actor category as he deserved to be in the Best Actor category in view of the fact that the movie centred around his character Ishan Awasthi and the fact that actor-director Aamir Khan himself was selected for the Best Supporting Actor for the same film. "I believe I should have been nominated for the Best Actor category," he told the channel.

In fact, Aamir Khan's directorial debut 'Taare Zameen Par' bagged six key awards at the Nokia 14th Annual Star Screen Awards. Aamir shared the best director award for the film with Shimit Amin for 'Chak De! India', which starred Shahrukh Khan. He additionally won awards as the Best Supporting Actor and for Best Dialogues at a function organsied in Mumbai on Wednesday night.

The three other awards won by Aamir's film were - Best Story (Amol Gupte), Best Child Actor (Darsheel Zafary) and Best Lyricist (Prasoon Joshi).

Shah Rukh was adjudged the best actor for his performance in 'Chak De! India'. The best actress award went to Kareena Kapoor for her performance in 'Jab We Met'.

A.R. Rahman's musical score for 'Guru' earned him the award for the Best Music Director. Shah Rukh and Deepika Padukone were named as the Best Pair onscreen in 'Om Shanti Om'.

Deepika was also adjudged the Best Newcomer (Female), while Ranbir Kapoor was adjudged the Best Newcomer (Male). Irrfan Khan bagged the Best Comedian Award for 'Life...In a Metro' while Anurag Basu won the Best Screenplay Award for the same film.

The Lifetime Achievement Award went to Manoj Kumar. Chak De! girls shared the honour for Best Supporting Role (female).

Singer Soham won the award for the Best Playback Singer (Male) for the film 'Life...In a Metro' while Priya Ghosal was adjudged Best Playback Singer (female) for Mani Ratnam's 'Guru'.

Whoa, I find it hard to digest that this kid would be so opinionated at auch a tender age. Looks like Aamir is cloning him in his own mold. Sad. very sad

^^You're right. Darsheel is becoming like Aamir now. Yea, I agree he was excellent in his role but SRK truly deserved the award! Darsheel should at least be happy that he got an award!

Looks like TZP didn't teach Aamir Khan anything. It was just meant for audience😛

before making darsheel big headed amir should look at jugal hansraj who was in masoom in my opinion he was the best child actor ever way better than darsheel but where is he right now nowhere. u should be glad that u got an award u might no get it again ever so. seriously by showing this kinda attitude it doesn't matter how talented u are u losse the respect that viewer may had for u. 🤢

But I agree ...this is taking things a bit too far...

artists should have the humility to accept the accolades that come their way with grace...this attitude to prove a point will just push you away from the people who admire you!

Thats why I like SRK in this respect...he always acknowledges love/ adulation/ acknowledgement in any form...

the other day on TV I saw him walking down for some function and some girls were standing on the side showering flower petals on him...he actually stopped and acknowledged them and said thank u before moving on...👏

Thats the reason why Aamir will never have a following like SRK...because the latter rules the hearts of people!😃

Aamir is too wrapped up in his own self...so probabaly he doesnt even deserve that kind of love and affection!😡
