Trotting among the bookshelves that housed millions and millions of books in the library, Selena was herself weighed down by a large pile of them. While one of them was thick and bulky, the other was equally thin, one was covered red while the other turquoise. The diverse variety however carried a similarity too,the similarity that the side cover of every book read a brainy phrase'.
The uncanny silence let the raining snow outside penetrate her ears as she, spotting a comfortable seat, occupied it stealthily. Withdrawing her hands from the book, she left the widespread table in a mess as she exhaled in relaxation. Twisting her hands in order to relieve them of the burden she had been carrying, she crossed her legs and reached out for her backpack, took out a pair of classy spectacles and balanced them on her nose. Pulling out a book from the scattered set, she opened it and began to read. Her eyes had hardly run over a sentence when she felt a breath near her ears and someone hissed
"Hello Miss!"
She was instantly taken aback making her almost jump out of her seat. The alertness in her eyes, determined to prove itself made her see the man that sat beside her who was grinning rather seductively and the embarrassment within splashed out.
"Ermm Hello!" She tried to smile desperately but her lips weren't co-operating anyway.
"May i have the book you have opened on your lap?" He asked in a husky voice, brimming in confidence.
"Uh, sure!" She handed him the book, her stupid brain not valuing a single second of the hours and hours she had spent in looking for it on those shelves.
And he took the book and began to read while her amazement had her gaping at him all the while. Amazement at how neither her eyes, nor her ears had bothered to make it known to her that he had arrived and sat right next to her, amazement at the absolute ease and casualty in his dealings that never let her stray from what he wanted. And inside it begun to flourish, her urge to have an exchange of words with him which grew to such an extent that it couldn't be contained any longer.
"So, you too are a doctor of some kind?" She asked at last.
"Nope!" He answered without losing his eye contact with the pages "I am just, rather too interested in this complex organ called the brain!"
"Interested?" Her eyeballs popped out. And here was she. The girl whose head knew how she had spent her days at the university, understanding psychology. Nothing short of a nightmare that was. Interest, yes there was it but with the stress that was poured into the recipe, everyday was a peace-robber for sure. Not a day had gone by without her wondering if the choice of her career had been unethical. But the train that was her life was well guided by the tracks of her passion. And now when she had graduated, it all seemed worthwhile, yet horrendous sometimes on days like this one.
"Around where have your thoughts been flying off late?" He questioned again.
"Nowhere!" She said before asking "And what is it you find so interesting in it?"
"Everything!" Was his answer.
"You know you are kind of captivating!" She declared "And i am a psychologist myself!"
"You are?" He pretended astonishment with an indication that rang in her head of her stupidity. Why else would she be scavenging these dull books on brains.
"And thank you!" He smiled "I am Steve Benjamin." He introduced, shooting out his hand towards her.
"Selena Shy." She let her hands sway with his.
"That's a beautiful name to a beautiful lady!" He exclaimed flirtatiously.
"Thank You!" She blushed a bit.
And that was just the start of this long, absorbing, exciting conversation of the duo which lasted long enough for him to procure her social media accounts and for her to find herself at dusk, losing all the hold on time, the end of which bore a pair of fast friends.
Sharp at 6 however, the old library clock resonated, returning her sense of time to her.
"Good lord! It is 6?" She aimed at question at herself in disbelief "Ghosh! I gotta go!" She grew restless as she put on her cloak and cap and hurried towards the gateway before she turned to look at him, still seated there refusing to budge.
"Aren't you getting late too?" She asked rather shocked.
"I don't think so!" There again was this carefree attitude "I think i would stay longer today. "
"Are you sure?" She wasn't really convinced.
"Absolutely!" He replied "Good bye,Ms Shy!"
"Good bye!" She waved while walking out.
Outside found her cheeks all red, cold wasn't the reason, he was. His thoughts won't leave her, of how he had never let her glance at her watch and how the stallions of their interests ran perfectly alongside each other. And that was a pretty odd time for her sixth sense to begin being useful again as it began to state that there was something rather mysterious about him. Yes,probably she too felt a strange, eerie aura around him. Something that was unusual. The guy didn't seem at bay on the psychological front too somehow. But her heart shut it up. Possibly, years and years of apprenticing to peep into brainless heads had extracted and adsorbed the capabilities of her own too! With that thought, she labelled herself as a lumpish lady and began to think of him again. He was rather handsome and manly with sharp inquisitive eyes, a pointed nose and that beard uff, that was damn hot. She was seriously crushing on him and her heart won't mind entering a courtship too,she thought as she felt those flutters within.
