Mallika Sherawat is ready to step into Madhubala's shoes for her soon to be released comedy film Sanjay Chhel's Maan Gaye Mughal-E-Azam (MGMEA).
And apart from the name that Chhel's film shares with the yesteryear hit, the sexy Sherawat will be seen paying an ode of sorts to veteran actress Madhubala in the song Pyar kiya Toh Darna Kya which is a part of MGMEA.
But before any sentiments get hurt, the composer of the song Anu Malik says that this new version is in a completely different format. "The song Pyar Kiya Toh Darna Kya is one of the greatest songs in the history of Indian films. No one can ever make such a beautiful song nor can anyone copy Madhubala or even forget her performance in the song," he says.
Like Chhel's previous hit, Partner, MGMEA is also a contemporary comedy and keeping the genre in mind the song also has a comic element to it. It will be picturised as one of the stage performances done by the cast of the film. "As it is a comedy film and the cast play stage performers the song has many funny lines in it," adds Malik.
Director Sanjay Chhel says he is very excited about his film. "I have tried my best to give the audience the unexpected. I have tried to change the image of the entire starcast. Rahul Bose is known for his serious cinema and so is Kay Kay but here for the first time you will see them doing comedy. Mallika is a glamour queen but here she is playing an actress' role and I think she will be taken very seriously after MGMEA. Paresh Rawal is a very experienced actor but in this film his role is very challenging as he is playing 3-4 different roles and so it hasn't been easy for him. Now it's up to the audience… According to me there hasn't been a film like this in Hindi cinema," says Chhel.
MGMEA is a story of a theatre group and how they deal with the difficulties that they come across while performing a play and in their own way the theatre group actors also have a message for the nation.
