It's very sad seeing Karan and Lakshmi struggle with their choices, and with their memories of each other in recent episodes. No matter who's to blame, you've got to admit they have feelings for each other.
I myself am sad to see Karan suffering with his decisions and with the loss of Lakshmi. Because I think this is the one thing that has cut him--like the fate of his family.
You are going to laugh, but please think about it. He is the stereotypical character in TV and literature, the ancient Greek tragic hero, who due to fate, ignorance, loyalty, or hubris, is torn in two; makes terrible decisions; wreaks havoc; and is destroyed. But in the end, he is always redeemed because he tries to correct his wrongs (or fight his fate). Karan and many other characters, remind me of this "hero". Karan is being destroyed by the consequences of his actions, misinformation, and hubris. Now we get to see redemption.
I think this is why I have so much pity for him nowadays. People do bad things like he did (and I'm not talking about murder, hurting children, etc.). I'm talking about his revenge plan: to make Lakshmi miserable and Suryakant jailed. The consequences, we know. But Karan has changed and it's not a superficial transformation. He gets it and he's trying to correct his mistakes. And he's correcting them not only because of guilt at hurting so many people; but because of love. I find that very humbling.
Lakshmi does not see this, of course. She's too young; she does not get shades of gray. Hell, she can forgive Yuv and Menka for stealing Suryakant's company and kicking the whole family out of the house. Suryakant was humiliated, worked in a sari shop, etc. Yet, family is family. Well, your husband is too.
