I really enjoy the resignation scene because of all the observations you listed and also because I love this khushi,we got to see her during arnav's "i-will-humiliate-her-by-making-her-my-wedding-planner" too...the one who does not need to get all hyper or raise her voice to put her point forward.
But I don't like how even in this scene she was scared enough to take a step or two back when he takes a step forward...what does that mean?does it mean that khushi's strength was hollow,a farce?or that despite of not being fearless she said what she wanted to?

you say that the chemistry is amazing in this scene...what is chemistry for you?...i ask this because
I kind of struggle with judging chemistry..acting is easier to have opinions on because facial expressions (and even body language) is visible. Is chemistry visible?
Have you watched other shows on indian tv or by this production house of ipkknd?what makes sanaya-barun's chemistry different?

Interesting question, girl. What is chemistry anyway? Can you feel it between two strangers? Do we really feel a pull or a positive vibe towards one person and a terribly negative one towards someone else? Well, speaking for myself, I have to agree. There is always a good feeling about wanting to meet or communicate with someone and a bad one that makes you try to avoid someone else!

With regard to that elusive chemistry between actors...Sanaya Irani and Barun Sobti have both been asked this question n number of times...how they explain this smouldering chemistry between them. Surprisingly, they both had just one thing to say - that they were good actors, and were inspired in their performances by the other person. So, perhaps it is really as simple as that...although comfort levels should contribute...the fact they were ver good friends off screen and behind the scenes could have contributed in some measure too. And no honestly, their smouldering chemistry is something I have not had the occasion to catch on too many shows...

Hope this helps answer your question somewhat?

Thank you for your comments, Sisters.

@JaiJaiIraniMata Thoughful questions.

1. Step forward/Step back: Yes, what did Writer/Director want to convey to us?
My thought: K has been presented (and even identified herself) as courageous (NOT fearless) "Yes, I'm shit-scared, but I'll do it because it has to be done." It is essential to her dignity and character that she present her letter to the man with whom she signed the contract. So she draws upon her inner Jhansi-ki-Rani and goes in there. But the fear is just beneath the surface. When he steps forward, her stepping back is instinctive. This decision by Writer/Director is to remind us that Khushi is a not a fighter by nature. But when she must, she will do it. And equally importantly---this stepping back tells A that she hasn't overnight become a Jhansi-Ki-Rani. She is brave not fearless. (I better stop here otherwise I'll launch in my David+Goliath analogy.)

2. Sexual Tension: When I used the word -chemistry- in my post, I perhaps used it erroneously. I think I meant -sexual tension-. While watching the scene, I could see a thought bubble over Arnav's head which read: "I don't know whether I want to snog her or smack her."

3. Chemistry: When I say so-and-so have good chemistry, I mean that the energy between them feels positive and if they did not get together, it would be a shame. And extending it, if the energy between has a sexual component, then I am saying, that I bet those two would be dynamite in bed. In terms of actors---I have only seen Mr Sobti and Ms Irani on screen as Arnav and Khushi--and in those roles they have heaps of chemistry. Of every sort. And as Anu says, it has to do with ease and being excellent performers.

Awesome analysis. You guys said it all. What a diatribe by Khushi. There is nothing he can say to defend himself. Both of them looked so good in that shot. It is a visual feast. I liked Khushi in this dress and with her braid little loose. There is so much longing in that parting look, as though they already made place in each other's heart. He looked helpless. Yes, it is imperative that Anjali and Nani should know this side of Khushi. I found it cute the way Khushi addressed Arnav as aapke bhai, aapke bhai before Anjali.

"He looked helpless."
That's EXACTLY it.
And powerless.
Very unfamilar and uncomfortable states for Arnav.

It looked as though he wanted to stop her but was unable to. He was angry for not being able to stop her as well as for her audacity. He now cares what she thinks of him. For the first time she is not happy giving it back to him. Probably because she recognized that concern and helpness in his eyes instead of his usual arrogance, disdain and anger.

If Arnav was the anchor of the Raizada family, then Anjali had always been its heart. Her disposition, her goodness, her serenity, her faith made her everybody's beloved. Therefore, to witness Anjali's idealism crushed so mercilessly affected them as though a child had been crushed by a lorry in front of their very eyes.

Yes, that's completely right. She has been liked, loved by everyone except one man who ought to have loved her the most. Sigh!

Mami Bond is a show-off, trying to fit in the riches and well educated, groomed society, has a motor-mouth and that's the reason nobody takes her seriously, not even her own husband. Her observation otherwise was valid. There has to be definitely something off about a man who goes missing for weeks and never takes his wife along with him on his official trips, especially a man who seems so besotted and in love with his wife. How can such a man stay away from his beloved?

Anjali is fair in her behavior. She doesn't disapprove Khushi's actions (as she knows the situation preceding it) but at the same time feels it necessary to add that her brother has not been completely understood. Anjali knows his brother is not all khadoos or a villain. He is man who doesn't have all bright moments, that's all especially when it comes to a certain Gupta.

I loved the whole resignation scene. It's one of my favorite from the show. The way she says at the end "toh jaan lijiye Mr. Arnav Singh Raizada hum aapki wajah se nahi, hum aapke bawjood bhi theek hain" It sums up everything he has done to make her bow down and every triumph she scored over him. I also loved the dialogue "bhaad mein jaayein aap, bhaad mein jaye aapki naukri". She is brave, not scared, she no longer gives a damn about the contract and him (but well she does, about her boss I mean).
That one last look was necessary. They never part without one last look. Also as you right pointed out, it was the beginning of "tum theek ho"

IPKKND Nostalgia: Episode 034

Shuklaji's Stand

1. So it is done: Shyam admits (to us) that he is in love with Khushi. And we get a significant clue that there is someone else in Shyam's life during his phone conversation with "Bhai." When he is waxing lyrical on how love is not measured by time alone---we can assume from Shyam's reply that Bhai must have said something to the effect of, "You are thinking Bhabhiji, aren't you?"

2. When Anjali asks Chotte if he managed to reach her husband on the telephone, it occurred to me that that would make for a nail-biting scene. Arnav calls Shyam. He's in the bathroom. His phone is left outside. It continues to ring. Buaji tells Khushi to answer. In case it's urgent. And JUST before she says, "Hello"---Shyam lifts the phone from her hand. OR. He reaches Shyam. They are speaking. And then Arnav hears Khushi's voice in the background. He asks who that is. And Shyam says, "I didn't hear anything. I think you are hearing things." Arnav accepts this because all day he has been hearing Khushi's voice echoing in his mind.

3. I loved the contrast between Arnav carefully-tenderly pruning this very delicate flowering plant while Khushi's sharp vitriolic words are ringing in his ear. Her last sentence enrages him. He throws the potted plant to the ground. It's a superb symbol and it foreshadows what will be a pattern in their relationship: The thing he loves is destroyed in a moment of anger.

4. Three sets of parallels:

A. Khushi speculates the reason she is not at peace is because she left things unsaid. And Anjali believes Arnav is not at peace because he had not opportunity to speak in his defence.

B. Shyam stuffing Khushi with delicious treats whilst his wife suffers dizzy spells from the fast she is keeping for his well-being.

C. Everything is over. They will never see each other again. But wait! Khushi and Arnav each find a memento. Love makes trifles into treasures.

5. Quick mention on Khushi: We have seen Khushi in various moods. But never quite like the one today. Despondent? Devitalized? And confused by it. She is feeling emotions that are unfamiliar. She doesn't know what's wrong---but she knows something is.

The resignation episode is one of my favorites. Your analysis is brilliant! The extra observations (after your usual five) cover everything in that scene. It is almost like a dance-drama, where the dancers speak with their eyes and gestures as much with words and their entrances, movements, positions etc.
All thru' this scene of confrontation, all I could do is cheer for Khushi - the way she stands up for all the injustice and cruelty that Arnav has bestowed on her. And he is spellbound! When we slowly come to see the 3 women standing and watching with their mouths literally open, I cheered even more!

I admire his ability to listen to all that and say nothing.
This is most def K's moment, but A's silence moves me equally :-)
