One thing I like about this show is the subtle hints they provide. They make it so much more interesting to watch. Yesterday a major hint was left in the show. But I didn't mention it in my post because I was waiting to see how it is followed through in today's episode.

Hint no. 1 - Yesterday, Dev gave Sonakshi roses which pricked her finger. Ritwik took the rose that pricked her, removed the thorns and handed it back to her.

Hint no. 2 - Today Sonakshi was crying in the car because of the hurt and embarrassment Dev inflicted on her. Ritwik handed her the handkerchief to wipe her tears but took it back.

Few weeks ago I posted in someone's post that I believe Ritwik is neither hero nor villain. He is a catalyst.

In literature, a catalyst is someone who changes the equation or situation between the main protagonists.

In this case, Dev and Sonakshi were stuck in a limbo. He was unable to move on and she could not either because he was constantly reminding her what she has lost.

Ritwik cut that off with a sharp edged question. Question that Dev should have asked himself before taking any major decisions. What does he want from Sonakshi.

Ritwik and Sona both gave him chance to reach out and choose his happiness, but he didn't which is why tomorrow when he finds out about his mom's betrayal, it will hit him that much harder.

However, as usual his kryptonite Ishwari will suck out his free will, brain power and ability to take smart deecisions and emotionally blackmail him with hugs and he will shut up.

But there's another point I'd make today. Some people claimed earlier that Sona doesn't love him or understand him.

I hope today they realize that Sona truly loves Dev like a woman and understands him more than anyone else in the world.

Only a woman can love a person who hurt her the most and still able to love them.

Only a woman can hide her pain days after days and continue to spread happiness.

Only a woman can wish the man happiness who broke her heart and left her shattered.

They learn it by nature because even a mother who almost dies delivering a child, still hugs the child to herself when that child reaches out for her.

Every one accolades Devdas as the legendary lover because he drowned himself in alcohol after losing his love and every one blames Paro for her anger and her rejection of Devdas when he came back and asked her to come with him on her wedding day.

They call Paro's self-respect, pride and arrogance. God forbid a woman have pride or arrogance or self-respect or honour. Apparently a woman can have too much self-respect.

But no one realises that going into oblivion by drowning in alcohol is easy. But living a life and putting a smile on your face for the sake of others when one's inside is shattered is much harder.

Today when Ritwik offered Dev to reach out for his love, for few minutes Sona was looking at Dev with hope that he will choose them. But he didn't.

Later Sona again offered him a chance to choose them. But he still didn't do anything.

Now he can't even pretend that he didn't get a chance to fix what went wrong. He got more than his fair share.

Dev told Sonakshi today that they are not separate, they are one. But Dev never understood the concept of one.

You see, being one person means that you can't separate yourself from that person. Hence even the idea of breaking up never enters in your head because cutting off your right arm and leg are easier than being without that person.

When other people look at you and know that her happiness is your happiness, her honour is your honour, her dignity is your dignity. What they do unto her, they do unto you and never they can separate the two of you, that's called being one.

Being one means that even if the God himself asks you that you can enter heaven but you have to go separate ways, you'd say that her rejection is your rejection. Where she goes, you go.

It's not a new concept. Every woman does it. Even if her own family insults her husband, she walks out holding her husband's hand because his honour is her honour. You reject her husband, you reject her. That's being one.

If someone insults Dev's mother and Dev feels insulted, that's being one.

When even after break up, Sona doesn't want anyone to blame Dev, that's being one.

Trivializing his love on front of his mother, is not being one.

But can I blame him? No. Because he is what he was taught.

We teach men and women in India social hierarchy at a very early age.

If you are a man, then first comes your family, then comes friends, then comes your life partner. Your life partner's family does not even fall in any consideration.

If you are an unmarried woman, first comes family, then comes friends.

If you are a married woman, first comes husband, then husband's family, then his friends, then your children, then their friends, then your family. Now your friends are no longer in consideration.

And we learn. We learn the hierarchy and follow it until death.

I felt sorry for Dev. Poor guy has a lot coming his way. But you can lead a man to water, you can pour him a glass and hold it to his mouth. But you can't make him drink it. Even if he is dying of thirst and you have to watch him die slowly, you can't make him drink just like you can't live someone else's life on their behalf.

Dev is that unfortunate person because he forgot that at the end of the day, we are humans and if you put us in pedestal, we can only go downwards from there and Ishwari's downward journey has just started.

Now about Sona. Her condition is exact opposite of Dev. Taking the water example, she is like the person who is tied to a fence by the sea. Waves keep frolicking in front of her eyes, but never reaches her. She knows that the water is inedible. But she just can't stop wishing for it to reach out to her even though it's bad for her.

Dev does not want to drink a glass of perfectly cool, crystal clear, life giving water and Sona can't drink unhealthy, salty, inedible sea water no matter how desperately she wants it because her hands are tied.

About Ritwik, I'd remind you what I wrote in my post yesterday.

Link: http://www.india-forums.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=4709998

Because of Dev's silence today, Ritwik came out as winner.

However I believe this catalyst has a deeper role to play...

But on a different note, this episode probably had the best scenes performed by the best actors. Every single person was so precise in their delivery from dialogues to expression that I could not take my eyes off. Bravo!!!

Lovely post Tia. I like your hints😉
As fas as Rithik being a catalyst, I totally agree. Had Rithik not entered the scene and Sona returned to her life of work and family then where would there be a cause to action on Dev's part? In order for Dev to make any sort of move forward and try and reclaim Sona, he has to fear losing her forever. If she remained single, he could continue to just follow her from afar and live off the daily glimpses her got of her. His desperation and janoon hit a new level once he saw her with a man. That is when he lost control. Fear begin to creep in that she was replacing him. And like he has said at least twice, he cannot forget her and he cannot allow her to forget him. The fear has overtaken his emotions so much so, as he admitted today, he himself does not know what he is doing.

As for not understanding they are one, I am not sure he does not know the meaning of being one. I think He is one with his mom, yes. But he admitted that Sona was his reason to wake up in the morning, open his eyes and to even breathe. I think Dev would cut off his arm for Sona, there is only one thing he could not do for Sona and that was give up/disappoint his mother. It's because he feels his mother gave him life and he fears by choosing Sona he would take his mother's life. He is unable to correlate that a life without breathing is death, and that is what is what is happening to him now. He is living without his breath, Sona. He does not have a clear picture of what is happening and he is not thinking clearly at the moment. He will slowly gather the pieces together via Rithik and certain circumstances and then he will make the right decision. For 28 years he has done for his mother and family, he has never chosen himself over them. He does not know how to live for himself, Ishwari admitted she did not teach him that, albeit for her own selfish gain. For growth in him as a person this new way of living is going to be a struggle, which we are currently observing. But he will soon realize just saying we are one is not enough, he will need to act on that as well.

That's exactly why I said Dev does not know how to be one with Sona because all his life his mother occupied that space. If he knew then he could have asked Sona for help and she'd have stood by him.

You see Dev did not leave her with any hope. A person can spend his entire life in misery if he has hope. But without hope, you have nothing to look forward to.

Ishwari complained that she never taught Dev to think about himself. But one time he thought about himself, she was the one who snatched that happiness from him. If she had actually taught him how to think for himself, the poor guy would have a life beyond the unappreciated servitude for life she sentenced him with.

I mean who does not even have a friend or know anyone outside family?

I found it the height of hypocrisy when Ishwari complained about something that she is actually happy about.

Because Dev put his mother in a pedestal, tomorrow he is going to be gutted by her betrayal. I guess it's too much to hope that he will withhold his forgiveness.

I understand what you mean, totally, about being one. Just offering my two cents.

Ishwari is a hypocrit who has hides behind the image her son has painted of her. She wants to appear sweet and pure but is very shrewd and manipulative. She knows how to put people in their place and then feigns innocence. She knows what she is doing but then when she is called out on it she tries to act as though she does not. Why am I not happy? She knows the answer, but it's a bitter pill for her to swallow. Like today, Dev was basically in a one way pissing match with Rithik. And when asked why he does not marry Sona, as I guessed, he stayed mute. Why? Because it was a bitter pill to swallow. What was he going to say after all this "manly display" of Sona is mine? I can't marry her because my mommy won't allow it?!

When we allow people to put us on pedestals we have to expect the fall that is sure to ensue one day because what goes up will definitely one day comes back down... Basics laws of Physics. Ishwari helped build her pedestal, she forgot to build the steps for the way back down.

👏👏 beautiful post.. 👏👏
THIS - No one realises that going into oblivion by drowning in alcohol is easy. But living a life and putting a smile on your face for the sake of others when one's inside is shattered is much harder.

👏👏 This is where Sona takes my heart away with her.. She says it too.. If she doesn't do that then she would be dead... Killed herself.. or been another extreme of misery.. she can choo se any of these options too.. thus spreading her gloom inti her family... It's like you jump I jump... Boses' family is so tied close together that one person going down takes it's toll on the others.. One person boosting from inside will pull up everyone along with them... They don't keep on preaching how they are one and special but their actions speak volumes for that oneness.. Put them all together, they are truly one knowing individually how they affect the One thing in them..

And this is the real thing.. If you don't see your ex after you moved on, it's great for you.. the moment you see them and know that they are not doing well then, your peace is lost.. Sona's state is just that.. How can she even think of her day without a flash of her love struggling to start his day without you.. She needs a closure.. a clean one.. for her peace.. for she deserves that peace... As long as that doesn't happen she's gonna be continuously torn between herself... She's not even out of her past memories and here she's been put through the harshness of the present that her love is flashing in front of her every now and then... I sincerely hope and wish no girl goes through this one... For her sake, let this all be closed soon...

Thanks for writing for Sona.. 👏👏

You are right. That's why we should treat human as they are. Flaws and all, they are who they are and we love them in spite of it. No one is perfect. Loving someone does not mean that one become blind to their faults. It means that you see the flaws but still love them. Unfortunately Dev needed to be betrayed to see the flaws in his "God".

Thanks. I am extremely impressed by Sona's character. She is an extremely strong woman. And yes, you are right. Unlike Dixit oblivious family where one might be dying and no one even bothered checking unless it's Ishwari, Bose family pays attention to each other's happiness.

Even if one person in Bose family shed tears, the rest of the family gets affected. No one's pain is more important than other, no one's emotions are more of a priority than others. That is how a family should be, not a priority system.

Sona has seen what her heartbreak did to her family. They were the innocent one who only wanted their child to be happy. Yet every tear she sheds impacts their happiness. She is bearing her pain, Dev's pain and her family's pain. And for what reason? For someone who is no one to her.

Dev can tell himself that he did it for his mom and be content at the glory of sacrifice. What does Sona have? She had to live with the knowledge that she is responsible for her family's worries.

So she locked away her pain, pasted a smile on her face and tried to make the people happy who never let her down.

That takes courage, that takes love and that takes nerve of steel.

Awesome post Tia...
I think Rithwik will bring these 2 together ...hopefully he is not in love with Sona ( just likes her but not serious love) 😉

No. I don't believe Ritwik is in love with Sona yet. He likes her a lot and can fall in love. But not there yet. Whether he would bring them together or not, I don't know. But catalyst creates circumstances that moves the story forward.

That doesn't mean Ritwik won't get married to Sona, nor that means that he won't fall in love with her. It only means that his presence will change the equation between the main protagonists.

An example of it is again Kuch Kuch Hota Hai's Rani Mukherjee and Salman Khan. Both were catalysts. Without Tina, Anjali would have never realized that she loves Rahul. Even though Tina married Rahul, she taught them both how to love.

She was also the catalyst to bring them together through her letters to her daughter who was another catalyst.

On the other hand, without Aman, Rahul won't have been able to prove to Anjali that he is willing to fight for her.

Hence both were catalysts.
