IPKKND Nostalgia: Episode 014

Arnav Soaked

1. The chemistry is superb between the leads in the parkade scene. They sizzle. And Arnav's disdain for Khushi is palpable. I love the irony in the dialogue. She, warmly defending and praising her Boss. He, referring to her Boss as an idiot. As viewers we are in on the joke; a joke which they are wholly unaware of, and is at their expense. It creates a relationship between writer and viewer. Nicely done.

2. The editing was brilliant in the sprinkler scene. It uses contrast to tell the story. Cutting between Arnav getting soaked under the sprinklers, whilst Khushi is enjoying a lovely cup of tea outdoors.

3. Speaking of contrast, I love how two opposing qualities coexist within Khushi. She is not timid about berating him but the moment he approaches her, she shrinks. Is it because of the dori incident? In her view, his conduct on that evening has put him in a certain category of men---and while he is at a distance she can challenge him, but when he nears, she reverts to that incident.

4. The charm-merchant Shyam has now inveigled Buaji into friendship. A few words about the superiority of Lucknow, a promise to look into her pension matter---and she is his. But one thing is clear: the idea to have him rent their spare room originates with Buaji. Not him. In fact, he seems quite taken aback at the proposal. I feel that until that moment, he has not considered anything beyond being a friend to the family. Yes, it is true that he is delighted with Khushi, but it still feels harmless. I think he finds her amusing. Refreshing. Which she is. Had Buaji not invited that viper into their family bosom, who knows whether Shyam would have even thought about going as far as he did.

5. Nani seemed sheepish in Arnav and Anjali's presence. But I like that both women point out to Arnav that he is fortunate to have an employee who honours these spiritual practices. It creates anticipation for when he will discover that Khushi is that individual. What fun!

Maya,

While you make a good point about how Nani could have broached the matter with her grandson, the fact of the matter here is that Mr Raizada is hardly the most amenable and convivial of listeners far removed from Austen's more agreeable heroines! Always so used to giving people stentorian orders and having those diktats obeyed, I highly doubt he would have been willing to humour his grand mother on his choice of a live in relationship...that concept itself being alien to the matriarch. So that might be a challenge!

Now, on to the episode proper and your take five...simply too fabulous seeing the sensuously wet all over Mr Raizada. The man surely aces everyone else in the looks department! Wet and wild suits him just as much as dapper and sharp and super gelled! He hasn't so far cottoned on to who turned the sprinklers on that almost wrecked his deal. Woe betide Khushi Kumari Gupta when he finds out...which is the point at which this one ends. And yes, the car park conversation between the two opposing forces of nature is simply incendiary! They spit fire at each other just as sensuously as they lock arms and eyes and much more later...love or hate, they give those emotions a certain edge that is to die for!

And yeah, Shyam certainly always is such a dubious and slithery worm...he manages to worm his way into the old Buaji's affections with no compunction at all...promising to help her resolve her biggest anxieties...her pension, and also coming through as a perfect solution for her immediate financial woes...the paying guest idea certainly mooted by Buaji first, Shyam did look a bit gobsmacked...for having had the opportunity fall into his lap without even looking for it. So that is promptly when he ups the ante and decides to pursue Khushi in lust...hmm...no Maya, he always had the basest of intentions, no question about it.

Waiting for Episode 15 now!

Best,

Anu

That's -Jalebi- Episode 037, Archana.
Yes, I have written past that. It'll be on the website. And I'll post it here as well :-)

I like all these office scenes. All actors did pretty good job. Loved parking lot scene. Both did a very fine job. Sanaya is such a spontaneous actress.
Shyam's duplicity is revealed in this episode, though viewers who were watching it as daily serial would not know about it. At that point he did not seem to have any strong feelings towards Khushi but when buaji asked about his residence , he easily lied to her. Not sure why he did that.

Yes, you make a good point. I did not think of it from that perspective. If he had no evil intentions towards Khushi at this time, why not tell Buaji and Khushi that he is married and he found her a job in his brother-in-law's company? Why say that he lives at a hotel?

I'm not sure if you have read that episode in -khushi- where we learn that his duplicity runs deeper than Anjali and Khushi. In that work, I suggest he was a bad-bad man to start with.
Thank you for your comment.

Shyam's character was not etched properly. It seemed like he was a perfect gentleman before Khushi. It appeared he became a two timer and a criminal only after Khushi came into his life.
I expected that they would reveal shyam's dark side prior to Khushi later in the show. But it never happened.
Yes. I read Khushi multiple times :-). I just finished watching IPKKND and then I came across this story. I could not believe I found such quality in fan fiction. Thanks for giving us full dose of Arnav and Khushi, showing us how much compatible these two could be at physical level too which is the culmination of all those intense rabba be moments between them. I also liked how Shyam was handled in the story and how Anjali got a second chance in life.

IPKKND Nostalgia: Episode 015

ASR=Arnav Singh Raizada

1. This was the first time since starting this project that I have been tempted to watch more than one episode a day. But I managed to stop myself from clicking the forward-arrow. I am determined to experience IPKKND like a proper serial. I truly believe that the pleasure of a serial is in the delayed gratification. The hours between episodes when the mind can return to reflect on what happened today, and speculate on what will happen tomorrow. One relief of this sweet-torture of waiting for the next episode is that IPKKND is very well-paced. The plot is steadily moving forward.

2. I find myself wondering what goes through the mind of a man like Arnav Singh Raizada when he becomes aware that there is someone under his desk. That in itself is worthy of a W*F. But then to discover that it is that same weird girl---! Who could blame him for thinking that this is some plot to bring him down? A case of corporate espionage. This is such a brilliant scene. The leads are getting better and better. This chemistry is combustible.

3. I find it upsetting to watch this workplace bullying of Khushi. By Sim-Pam-La. The three whose names end before they have barely begun, as Khushi points out. But what it does accomplish is that as viewers our loyalties are becoming entrenched. We are now card-carrying members of Team Khushi. I like that Manju is with us too. Loved how she reframed office politics into a language Khushi can understand. Domestic politics. The cherry on that analogy was that Khushi is told to view ASR as her husband and Lavanya as her Sasumaa.

4. Deeper understanding today on Anjali's character and her insecurities. She really is so lovely and so devoted. As viewers we are now beginning to grow very curious about her husband.

5. Nani and Mami. Back in the ring. All I can about that is that Mama is very sweet (albeit useless) to Mami. And Akaash too rallies around her. These two men seem to know exactly what to say to palliate her nerves.

Yes, I like how your mind works, Sister.
Excellent point: By presenting him as a gentleman before he met Khushi---and then a fiend after---suggests that Khushi influenced him negatively.

True, Anu. If these fictional characters would not have minds of their own. If they would allow us to play God, then all would be happy-clappy :-)

Oh! I loved reading the above. Whenever you want to take on an episode (or 2, 4, 8) to nostalgify, just say the word. :-)

Your above comment reminded me of something I read in -Story Grid- (I believe) about how the most compelling villains are those who are unwittingly helped by one of the good guys. This is a case of that.

Sigh! Maya, would dearly love to do an entire treatise on these two and IPKKND...five years and counting of our lives! However with the terrible pressure of a crazy job and the fact that I already spend the bulk of my spare time watching VMs or reruns of the show or reading fan fiction on them, I think I better pass on steering this ship and leave it in your able hands. Of course will pitch in when you need me...always around. But yeah...life is pretty crazy...not even Khushi Kumari Gupta style crazy! Haha! Meanwhile, thank you for doing this Nostalgia thing. You could not have given this show of ours a bigger tribute!

Hugs,

Anu
