Hmm...truly wish I knew where one could catch a subtitled version...no clue I am afraid. Hotstar also does have the habit of disappearing on occasion and saying the content is not available in this region...but well, luck of the draw at this point in time!

Then came the song. I think I can write pages after pages on what I feel about this section.
In my humble opinion, it was a very effective and beautiful way to establish the differences between the characters.
Both started their journey towards the durgah by covering their head. One happy and looking forward to it, the other just doing what he was forced to do. One is accepting, receiving, receptive. The other seeing everything as an unnecessary distraction. They were divided by only a chadar, yet both couldn't have been more different in their demeanours. And then the dupatta flew, and caressed his face, and instead of angrily brushing it aside, Arnav stopped and waited for it to float by. Uff! ❤️
Maybe he even found the entire experience peaceful.
Despite putting up a protest and not having any faith in any deity, I feel he somehow needed that experience. Otherwise, why did he wait for some time at the 'prayer dhaga' area? Why did he sit down with the devotees? Why did he look like he was looking for somebody there?
Again, fabulous job by the entire IPK team.👏

Thank you for sharing your wonderful analysis. Many insights there. I especially loved what you wrote above. The marked difference in how Khushi and Arnav respond to the activities at the durgah.

And---YES!---when the dupatta caresses his face, he doesn't respond to it as though it irritated him. His eyes follow her. Be still my heart.

True, very true. This is one of their best scenes together. This was the classic IKP 'nafrat paas aane na de, mohabbat dur jaane na de' moment. Though at this juncture, it was more 'dar/irritation paas aane na de, disbelief (at the other's audacity) dur jaane na de'.

2. Why did Sanaya use such a weird shade of foundation in this scene? It was making her look orange.

At the hands of a weaker actress, Khushi's antics could have made her an annoying character, but it was Sanaya's performance that made even those antics adorable.

With Khushi, even the most plain Guptas used to become special. E.g. Payal, who had no character arc throughout the show. But whenever she was with Khushi, I used to enjoy watching even her

Loved your comments. Especially those I've quoted above. I like what you read into that battle scene, and how it connects to the tagline of: Nafrat paas aane na...

I totes agree that Ms Irani's performance makes Khushi's antics endearing and hilarious (in a good way!). I would not have the patience for them otherwise. And I never thought of that way, but yes---she elevates the performance and characterization of whomever she is sharing scene space with.

And to think that today, after years, I have got this opportunity to chat up with fellow IPKKNDians about the show that is more like my life now, is bliss. Thank you. Its been ages I have seen the show, life is brutal to say the least, but I do recall the epis very well and your posts have refreshed my memory again. And I will bug Anu for the links too because I would love to join in the discussions here 😆.

Arnav and khushi for me from the very beginning of the show were two people who looked very different from the outside but were carved out from the same canvas in hindsight. They were both alone, Khushi amidst her family and Arnav just in general. And even though the writers had gone to great lengths to show how Arhi were poles apart, I would like to believe that it was only their background and upbringing that set them apart. Rest as we all know, they were quite similar at ground zero. The two halves who competed each other and made a whole.

Thank you for introducing yourself. You are very welcome. I enjoyed reading your entire post. But the above especially resonated with me. One of the reasons that I'm so attached to IPKKND is that it has been an awakening for me on so many levels. I am an introvert. Not shy or reticent but deeply private and very content in a contemplative solitary life. So for me to join a group forum, and then write my own dramatic serials---AND actually share them!---is something I could never imagine myself doing before IPKKND. It's still not my comfort zone, but to engage with those who love Arnav & Khushi is so very gratifying. And I think my tale is not unique. IPKKND brought many of us hermits out of hiding.

Also---I agree with what you say about Arnav and Khushi. If you distill their hearts' desire, they ultimately have only one objective: that their loved ones are happy and safe. But their experience, history and education---and perhaps even gender---means that they approach this objective differently. Both experienced a tragedy, and how they coped with that tragedy sent their trajectories into different directions.

Happy to have you here.

Hi JalebiJane/ Maya
Now that we will be meeting here often you can call me N😳 And thank you so much for the warm welcome.

@bold thank you for sharing this bit and trust me I have met so many people who have stepped out of their comfort zone and mustered courage to step out and interact/ write/ discuss on public platforms because of their common love for IPK. I have been inspired by IPK in a different way, its a long story will keep it for some other day.
@blue very well said. Khushi showed her care explicitly while Arnav did it quietly, very true to their inert natures as well which is why Khushi was more vivacious while Arnav was private and an introvert, atleast personally. Khushi verbalised her feelings and Arnav said it through actions.

Boy I can foresee that I am gonna be hooked to this thread. 😊 Waiting eagerly for the next epi's analysis.

IPKKND Nostalgia: Episode 005

Episode 005: Meet Shyam

I'm really enjoying this exercise in nostalgia. Because there is none of the nail-biting curiosity of what-will-happen-next, I am at leisure to note details previously missed and see how future events are foreshadowed. But the highest pleasure for me is that of stepping into the mind of the writers to see their genius at work.

1. The creative minds behind IPKKND certainly enjoy stringing us along. Had I not already been aware that Shyam was the villain of this serial, I would, by his entry assume he was the hero. He is the classic knight in shining armour. In fact, Shyam's first scene is worthy of a Dabangg sequel. The way he fends off the goons with effortless flair and touches of humour captures Khushi's interest. We see this in her parting look.

2. One of the patterns observed in today's episode was how Khushi's courage always rises when her loved ones are threatened. She may not champion herself, but she will defend her family. When the goons are abusing her she shrinks, but when they cast aspersions on Amma, she speaks out. This pattern repeats at the tv station. She is intimidated by the reporters but says nothing until she notices Payal cringing with humiliation. By the way, I loved Khushi's speech at the tv station. She condemns the journalists for helping an outsider malign a daughter of Lucknow. She appeals not just to their moral failing but to their civic pride. And it works.

3. I also enjoyed the scene when Anjali scolds and teases Arnav in his office. Once again, we see this other aspect of Arnav which totally contradicts his behaviour with Khushi. I smiled to myself when Arnav, frustrated with his sister, says, "where is your husband, Di? Why don't you go to him and leave me alone?" That line has a different impact now than it did the first time I heard it. Now I know exactly where Anjali's husband is and what he has been doing.

4. I can't tell who is more upset with Amma's decision to send the girls to Delhi until the media attention blows over. The girls or Buaji? :-)

5. Though it is not very long, the scene where Khushi convinces Payal that they must find out how the fashion show footage went viral is significant. Payal's instinct is to let things be; Khushi insists that they must defend their family honour. It displays how differently the two sisters approach challenges.

I am here, will be back after reading 😊
Edit
Fab review once again Maya. I love reading your reviews and I will start with this line today.
"Payal's instinct is to let things be; Khushi insists that they must defend their family honour.'
When you mention that Khushi may not fight for her own self respect but does it for her family, I was taken back to the TV station scene. You have worded it aptly that Payal cringes and feels humiliated while Khushi stands up for herself. This trait of the two girls goes on until the very end of the show. I am glad the CVs atleast kept this intact 😆. Not that I adore Payal's character, I dont hate it either, but during the hate marriage track and post it as well, during the kidnapping track too it was always Khushi who stood up and fought for everything and never payal who took the initiative. Even though Khushi was the younger sister, we see her as the one who goes on and works for ASR at AR and not Payal. I think its just about instinct and how we train our minds to be. Khushi was a born fighter and not Payal, no wonder Khushi ended up with her able match, the great ASR, who stood up for her and walked with her hand in hand and Payal had the docile Akash as her life partner. I would have preferred the Payal who fought with ASR after the guest house scene and also during shyam's revelation.
As for whose more upset with the girls going to Delhi, I would definitely pick Buaji 😆

The scene between Arnav and Anjali and the banter of the siblings was so well depicted here. The way Anjali ushers in with the holy thaal in her hand and the way Arnav rebuffs her, spoke volume about their characters. Arnav too fought the world over after the Sheesh mahal ousting because of his sister and came out a winner. Can you see the similarity between Arnav and Khushi here? They both stand up for their loved ones. I have believed that the script of the show was fantastic and I reiterate it yet again. Also, the scene depicts an irony, that while Arnav wanted his Di to leave him alone, he DID have her living in front of his eyes at RM. How wonderful of him to act nonchalant and yet love Anjali to the T.

Shyam's entry was fantastic as well. The first time around I actually wanted Khushi to pair up with him and care two hoots about Arnav but see the beauty of the script, the man who sugar coated his words was actually the villain and the diabetic and anti-hero was the hero, after all.

Maya I am thoroughly enjoying this, you have me hooked and how. 😊

I remember wondering at that time if they were going to have Shyam as the hero, given his dhamakedaar entrance, and mentally going no no no hoping they stuck with the other guy. It was that parting look by Khushi which had got me more worried.
Payal doesn't like rocking the boat, but she has a quiet strength that Khushi draws from, and one that keeps her anchored as well I think.
And did we get a glimpse of the elusive Aman here?
