Rohini Hattangady in ... Betiyaan

Dheeraj Kumar's Ghar Ki Lakshmi Betiyaan, a serial that advocates that there should be no discrimination between sons and daughters, is going against its purported ideal. However, actress Rohini Hattangady (who plays Gayatri) put her foot down recently when asked to do a regressive scene.

If sources are to be believed, Rohini left the Betiyaan unit high and dry on Saturday evening, saying that she wouldn't do a scene which required her to break her daughters-in-law's (played by Tanushree Kaushal and Aishwarya Naarkar respectively) bangles when her son in the serial (Yatin Karyekar) dies.

The script demanded that Rohini not only break her daughters-in-law's bangles, but even wipe off her sindoor.

Despite Rohini's objection, the makers of Betiyaan refused to see reason. Nupur Alankar (who plays Halkiben) had to perform Rohini's role in the show once she left.

Rohini says, "I definitely do not subscribe to old, regressive ideas of breaking a widow's bangles and rubbing off her sindoor. I don't think that anybody does that anymore. It's a thing of the past. I was very uncomfortable when I was told that I had to do such a thing. Hence I refused," she added.

Is it also because of the fact that the scene would drain her emotionally since her husband, Jayadev was lying unwell in the hospital? Rohini says, "Hmmm..., I don't know. But that could also have been one of the reasons. My husband had undergone a surgery at Lilavati Hospital (Bandra) and I had to rush to attend to him. But yes, that was not the only reason."

Nupur, who completed Rohini's scene says, "I had to complete the scene. The shooting had come to a standstill. Seeing no other option, they asked me to do it because I play Rohini's daughter. Even I don't believe in old-age traditions. But I had no choice, really."

Thanks for sharing the article.

She must have her reasons of refusing doing that.

It was so good of Nupure saving the situation and doing that instead of her.
