Hey! This is my first non-mythology story. Please do read and review! 😊
Prologue
Archana sat in the dressing room, deep in thought. It was finally happening. She was slowly allowing it sink in. Five months had changed so much. Her life had turned on its head.
"Archu?" It was her best friends, Samyukta and Priya. They were standing at the door. "They're ready for you. Vishal is waiting."
"I'm ready. Kind of." Archana checked herself in the mirror.
"Nervous?"
"Slightly."
"It'll be fine, you'll be fine." The two of them hugged her tightly. She hugged them back, thankful to have them.
"AKKKAAA!" It was her younger sister Akshara. She came into the room looking harrased.
"Yes, Akshu?"
"Appa is almost yelling! Come fast!!" She quickly ran out of the room.
Archana rolled her eyes affectionately. Only her father could yell in this situation. None else.
"This is it, guys," she said, walking to the door. She checked herself in the doorway. "Where's Aju?"
"Here." Aju, Ajay, walked into the room, wrapping Archu in a hug. She hugged back. "Finally, eh?"
"Finally," said Archana, softly.
"Srini uncle is waiting. And impatient."
Archana giggled and hugged her three best friends.
The four of them had been friends since they were six. Seventeen years together, and they had seen a lot of ups and downs. And after all that, they were like siblings.
"Ready?"
"Ready."
"Come." Aju left the room, and Samyukta and Priya walked with Archana to the mandapam, where Archana's fianc, soon to be her husband, Vishal Vardharajan, was waiting.
The ceremony went off more or less in a blur. The next thing she remembered properly was Vishal tying the mangalsutra around her neck.
Archana was strolling in the park, Vishal by her side.
"Arch?"
"Vishu?"
"Only a month to go." She looked up at him.
"I know. Time has flown."
"It has."
The two of them walked in a comfortable silence. Archana thought of how things were changing. From awkward silences, to these walks in the park. She realised with a jolt that she enjoyed these. These stolen moments. In four months, she had gotten to understand Vishal well. And he had too.
This is it, she thought. I am now Archana Vishal. No more Archana Srinivasan. She looked up at her fi-husband. Tall, handsome, he had been rather popular. Sadly for the girls, though, Mr. Bookworm Vardharajan hadn't paid the least attention to them.
And look at me, she thought. For a non believer in arranged marriages, I sure have come a long way. Marrying the guy Amma and Appa chose for me. I am a married woman now.
