Do you like singing? Do you have a guru who help you with your singing?How much you think it helps?Did you learn music as a kid from music teacher at School?Please share..

I LOVE SINGING!!!!!!. My Guru was only the Radio and TV . Learnt to Read music and Play couple music instruments in school but it was only for couple of years in India and they mainly taught us Western Compositions

At the current stage in my life my only Audience is my Family and the Bathroom walls 😆😆😆

Thanks Ron for sharing your views. Most of us have Music Guru as Radio or TV. We used to have very good music teacher in our school. They used to teach music from different states. Now going back, I feel the standard regarding teaching music in my school was very high. But I never opted for music and always chose PE or drawing😆.

I chose sanskrit because it was a high scoring subject..😆...and I echo what Ron said....bathroom walls or my extremely pissed off flatmate😆

I love singing..I went to a Music academy for five years(started when I was 8 years old) and then learnt from my guruji for 2 years..n then my father was transferred to another place and I had to pay more attention to studies, so music took a backseat..so my training stopped midway (though I completed my senior diploma I couldn't complete my Bachelor in music).. But I really feel a Guru is a must when it comes to Music..There can be no substitute..

I have heard from other people too sanskrit is a high scoring subject..Never had that option..

Thanks for sharing your views. Looks like you have done quite a bit.I see lot of flyers in restaurants these days people teaching music...Saregama has some positive effect in making people interested in music..

When i was akid my mother tried her level best to get me to learn from a proper guru.She tried twice,once when i was ard 8 yrs old(learnt for abt 5-6 months) and another time when i was abt 13 yrs old(learnt for 6 months again!)both times i claimed that i was bored and opted out.

Now i wish i hadn't.No one can replace a good guru.After i was abt 18 yrs old i got the inclination to learn music(but didn't have time),so i learnt from my mother and grand mother,both of whom sing very well...so as of now,I'd say my guru is my mum.I think a guru is the only person who will be able to point out the subtleties and small nuances that will make a good song sound excellent.A guru can tell u what songs suit ur voice,wht songs one shld not attepmt(very important 😆),how they shld be sung.... and give feedback on where it is besura,kansura etc.Sometimes the singer giving a performance will not be able to find out if he is kansura etc during the performance.But a guru can point the weak areas or likely mistakes since he wld know his student well.My mother does that role today 😊

I watched in American idol , some of the music teachers teaching singing were taking part in the auditions . They were pretty bad singers though and got kicked out. The judges had a hard time understanding how these people could teach singing. 😆

Guru ji got kicked out😆 but guru don't need to be a great singer. He should be able to find mistakes and help and motivate. Just my opinion!
