Ch 3 : Insecurities
She was sitting right beside him throughout the dinner, that kept his heart beating loudly against his ribcage. Surprisingly, with her by his side, he wasn't feeling incomplete. In her presence, the void in his heart was replaced with emotions he didn't wanted to name. From corner of his eyes, he kept stealing glances at her, she was sitting quietly, only answering in one or two words when needed, He could tell she was nervous, but why? Was it because of him?
"Rey, can you drop taani home? I have some work with sharon, its related to academy." Swayum asked him as they all stepped out of the restro. Rey look at him, then at her who avoided looking at him.
"Sure." He gave a curt reply to him, Swayum thanked him and walked away with sharon while others too left, leaving Taani & Rey behind. Awkward silence prevailed between them. Rey moved his car, taani sighed in frustration, mentally cursing her brother for putting her in this awkward situation. She followed him behind. He opened the passenger seat door for her, she lifted her eyes and her soft gaze met his intensified ones. They still held the intensity to melt her insides, made her heart flutter. With great difficulty, she tore her eyes away from him and sat inside the car. Rey shut the door and hoped inside the car.
He started the engine and drove away to home. It had become awkward and Taani didn't like it. She wanted to start the conversation, but wasn't sure if she could.
"So?" Rey trailed off, breaking the silence which was hard to bear, They had never been in situation like this before. Taani raised her one eye brow at him, questioningly.
"I heard you joined your family business?"
"Yes, I help tauji in office." Taani answered him politely, thanking him mentally for starting the conversation, else she didn't even knew how long she would be able to bear the silence. It was a stranger feel, they never thought one day, a situation would come where they will find difficult to start conversation with each other.
"Thats great!" And then again, silence prevailed between them. Both wanted to talk, but weren't able to. They wanted to talk about everything yet felt short of words. The past moments they had spent together, were flashing before they eyes, making them realize how beautiful their past was, and both wished same for their present too, but insecurities and fears bound them to accept it.
They both wanted each other, but scared of heart break. They had their own insecurities, which they weren't ready to let go and move on together.
Rey parked his car outside her house, it was started to drizzle heavily outside with thunderstorm.
"Why don't you come inside and wait for rain to stop, it's not safe to drive in this weather." Taani offered him, he look at her, surprised seeing how her voice held same care and worry like it used to. He was hesitate to take up to her offer, not wanting to make her uncomfortable with his presence. It would be the last thing he want.
"I'm not a rapist, you know. You will be safe-" Taani joked, lightening up the atmosphere when she saw him hesitating. She knew why he was so hesitate.
He look at her with with amusement, then without his acknowledge, a smile touched his cheeks making her smile too. They look at each other, it felt good to see your love ones smile, and they felt no different. They are in love yet scared to accept.
But they didn't know that Love is a game, and destiny player. Tonight destiny had its own plans, plans to reunite the two lovers.
