Promises
"Parth, vidushi. You are here. Pata hai maa theekh ho gayi. Doctors ko jo donor mila tha uski wajah se maa theekh ho gayi. Kash main usse ek baar mil pati jiski wajah se yeh sab mumkin ho paya", sanyukta said as her mother's operation was successful.
"Randhir", Parth said.
"Parth please uska naam maat lo. Jiss insaan ne apni wife aur apne bete ko chod diya jab unhe uski sabse jayda zaroot thi main uske baare mein baat nahi karna chahti", sanyukta said completely hurt.
Sanyukta's mom was suffering from a heart problem which could only to cured by a heart replacement surgery. They got to knew it about it a month ago and the operation was to be done soon.
From last one week Randhir left his home, his sanyukta and his 1 year old child to suffer and fight with the critical situation themselves.
"Leave it, I don't want to talk about it", she said turning around when Parth caught her hand and signalled her to stop.
"Sanyukta yeh randhir ne diya hai", Parth said handling a paper to Sanyukta. "Yeh Randhir ki akhiri nishani hai."
Saying so Parth moved out of the room unable to control his tears anymore, followed by Vidushi.
Sanyukta frozed on hearing Parth's words. Her eyes gazed at the letter in horror, her rarional mind went numb. With a fast pacing heart and an erratic breath, her shivering fingers unfolded the paper, hoping she had misunderstood Parth's words.
"M sorry Sanyukta..I wont be with you when you want me the most. Jaanta hoon ek promise tod diya main ne... this is the last time though! " Sanyukta's breath got stuck in her throat, she pressed her lips together still hoping this was not what she was thinking it to be.
"I know sanyu what is the importance of a mother in life. Shayad iss baat ko mujhse jyada koi nahi janta. Without a mother a child is nothing. Aur main nahi chahta tha ki tum bhi wahi sab dekho jo maine dekha. Main tumhe bina maa ke nahi dekh sakta. Main janta hu tum apni mom se bahut pyaar karti ho isliye main wahi kiya jo mujhe theek laga."
Her breath began getting uneven, she tightened her grip on the letter.
For a second she considered to stop reading the letter, she didn't really know how much she could take! But her heart ensured she continued.
"Destiny made sure that I pay for all the pain I gave you...you did not really forgive me till the end Sanyukta... that is the biggest price I paid..." Sanyu had goosebumps all over her body as yet another realisation struck her- yes she didn't talked to see him when he called her, may the last time.
"But farzi... I fulfilled my promise... to help you and your mother when you needed me the most..."
The ink on the paper smudged due to the salty water falling from her eyes, the image of the letter blurred thanks to her tears filled eyes. Probably this was it. She couldn't take it anymore.
"I love u Sanyukta...My heart is beating inside your mother's body ..which means I will be there for you like a mother ...Love u my farzi... forever yours, Your Sadu MCP..."
She stared at his handwriting, her fingers involuntarily touched his words so lovingly and delicately as though she was touching him. Her hands brought the letter to her nose, and she inhaled the fragrance of the paper, finding in it his intoxicating cologne. She slowly shifted her gaze from the letter to her son who was in vidushi's arms.
"Yudhir..." a fresh set of tears stained her face. Parth stood there, right at the door, just crying and cursing destiny...

**21 years later**
"Yudhir! Hamaari shaadi hai aaj! Why are we here?" Payal, Yudhir's fiance grumbled while walking through the various white marbles.
"For blessings..." Yudhir smiled, walking enthusiastically.
"What blessings? Yaha par?" She stared at him in disbelief, her eyes scanned the isolated and silent place.
"There is still a part of my life you are unaware about.." Yudhir stood in front of a white marble, smiling sadly. Payal, who by now understood the intensity of his emotions, stood right next to him.
"I had to take their blessings before our marriage darling... mom - dad hai mere yaha..." He stared at the marble stone, his eyes brimmed with tears. Payal's eyes widened in shock.
"But Vidushi aunty and Parth uncle tumhaare mom dad hai na.." She lovingly took his hand in hers and entwined her fingers in his.
"They are my parents..but not biological ones...They adopted me after mom's death..." He tightened the hold of his fingers in hers, his eyes still stuck on the marble.
"Mujhe kuch samaj nahi aa raha Yudhir..." She innocently stared at him, making Yudhir smile.
"My real dad died to save my grandmother...after my dad died, mom slipped into depression and insomnoa..she died 1 months later.." His pain filled voice echoed in the silent graveyard, Payal's eyes filled with tears.
"I obviously dont remember them..but the fact that they loved each other and did so much for each other... is enough a reason for me to love them even in their absence.." He caressed the marble stone lovingly, and placed a small kiss on it.
"I hope I am able to love u the way dad loved mom..." He smiled, beginnig to walk away.
"And I hope I am able to love you the way your mom loved your dad..." She gulped her tears, and began following Yudhir out of the graveyard, but halted mid-way only to glance at the marble stone once more, that read-
"Mr. And Mrs. Shekawat.."
