Chapter 3
"hey, wake up..." , he heard a voice coming from some far place, invading his weird foggy dreams...Randhir turned to his other side groaning and mumbled..." get lost..."
He felt someone shaking him hard...reluctantly he opened his eyes and said rudely ..."whats it Parth..its not yet 8:00 am and classes will start at 9:00..."
Randhir saw his roommate smiling slyly at him , he felt his anger rising and wanted to throw the pillow hard at his face..." Well I am seriously not feeling sorry waking you up at 6:00...as your girlfriend almost broke our door banging so early in the morning, breaking mine and Jiggy's sleep...get up and see what she has left for you...idiot...while I will go and get some more sleep"
Randhir looked around and his eyes fell on his table...a big bouquet of red roses arranged in a basket was waiting for him there...he groaned inwardly , feeling irritated...he went up to the table...took out the card placed in the bouquet and read... "Happy Rose Day! Sweet heart...I know you will never remember the day...so I reminded you...Love Shanaya :) "
Randhir was about throw away the card when a thought struck him... remembering yesterday's bet with Rehan he smirked...the roses had just given him an idea...
It was their first official class after the break, and all students were busy working in the lab...Randhir looked through the corner of his eyes at a certain girl who was engrossed in her work...he saw her sigh and try to brush her hair off her face...looked at her greasy hands and sighed again as she realised that she can't brush off her hair without making her hair greasy...she then upturned her lips and tried to blow off her hair from her face...she kind of looked cute as she did that, thought Randhir...just as the thought came to his mind, he felt horrified for even considering Sanyukta to be "cute"...as he tried to shake this feeling off his mind , he heard the professor announcing the class to wrap up...everyone bustled about leaving the lab...but that certain girl stay put still engrossed in her machine, and yet again she tried to put away her messy lock that seemed to keep falling over her face...Randhir, walked up to her and before she could realise what happened, he reached out and tucked away her hair behind her ears...his fingers skimmed a bit against her smooth olive skin of her cheeks...startled Sanyukta looked at him, with those hazel eyes which almost had the capability to hypnotise him ... "what do you think you are doing?" she asked breaking into his thoughts, her voice was a mixture of surprise and shock...
"Just helping you out ...that's all..." replied Randhir smirking
"Really?...you and helping me out? That's new..." Sanyukta said sarcastically
"well , lets just say I had a change of heart...I thought a lot yesterday...introspection you know...and I have come to a decision...enough of our fights and quarrels...its a new term , and from this term lets stop the fights, we will still compete, challenge each other but not fight...I am offering my hand in friendship with you.." said Randhir thrusting his hand forwards towards her...
Randhir saw Sanyukta look at him suspiciously, he sighed and said "Oh, come on...I swear this is not a joke or a prank...I am serious..."
Still looking suspicious, Sanyukta moved forward her hand and shook Randhir's hands... "Fine...lets call it a truce then..."she said...
"Good.." Randhir replied with a satisfied smile... he reached his back pocket and brought out a rose...he held the rose towards her and said "Happy Rose Day.."
Sanyukta was about to take the rose when she noticed the colour of the rose...it was a black rose..she looked at him in surprise ..."it's a black rose ..." she whispered
"yes it is...one of the rarest roses that can be found...till now you have known my dark side...while we are now starting a new relationship of friendship...why not start with the symbol of darkness...for that's what we know of each other...our darker side...hence representing our bond of darkness is the black rose..." said Randhir
Sanyukta quietly took the rose from his hand murmuring a "thank you", she was about to go... when Randhir caught hold of her hand...she looked in surprise at his act , Randhir quickly left her hand as he understood the cause of her surprise... "just a minute, Sanyukta..." saying that he brought out two more roses, one yellow and the other white...he gave the yellow one to her and said ..." for our new found friendship.."...he then handed her the white one and said " this is for our truce...no more fights..."
Sanyukta felt tongue tied at Randhir's act...to see her nemesis giving roses to her was no less than a shock...mutely she took the roses from his hands ... "well...this certainly is a surprise...you wanting to be my friend and all ..." she said a bit hesitantly...
"Yep..i suppose so...i just wanted to start over...you know putting away my bad past...becoming a good boy and all..so I thought why not start by being friends with my worst enemy" Randhir smirked
"Seriously?...you deciding to be my friend is a part of your "becoming good boy"plan...?...why don't I believe you I wonder..." scoffed Sanyukta
"That's because you never had a reason to believe me..." he said softly...he came near her, took her by the shoulders and bringing his face close to her ears, he whispered.. "but now you will have...I promise.."...his warm breath over her ears made Sanyukta shiver...Randhir noticed the effect he was having on her...very swiftly he left her and distanced himself from her...
"Yeah...w ..well...f...fine...lets start over..i will have to go now" she stammered feeling a bit confused...
As she was leaving, Randhir again stopped her by calling out to her "Sanyukta...wait a bit..." he came towards her, then bringing her hands close towards her, he wiped off a bit of grease that was on her nose..."now you can go...you looked cute with the grease though..." he smiled and went away leaving Sanyukta wondering what just happened ...
Sanyukta went to her room and throwing her bag on the bed sat down at her table...she closed her eyes and leaned back on her chair pondering over the encounter she had with Randhir a few minutes ago...
She heard the door of her room getting opened with a bang, voices of two girls shouted..."Sanyu...you are here...and we were looking for you all over the college..."
Sanyukta looked at her two roomies , who were looking at her questioningly...
"Err, umm...I had some work so I stayed back in the lab...so tell me...what did I miss ...why were you two looking for me.."Sanyukta replied
"Guess what...look at these..." Saying this Vidushi thrust a bunch of red roses at her..."Parth gave them to me..." she said blushing
Sanyukta looked at the roses and said sighing" Randhir's friend"
"Look at these..." Said Kaustuki and thrust a bunch of red roses at Sanyukta ..."Jiggy gave them to me" she said shyly
"Oh yeah...Randhir's friend ...yet again.." said Sanyukta shaking her head in exasperation..
"Seriously...what the hell is wrong with you...why are keep saying "Randhir's friend, Randhir's friend?" "Said Vidushi feeling irritated...
"What else can I do...out of so many people ...my best friends had to fall in love with the friends of my enemy.." Said Sanyukta frowning
"Sanyu...Parth and Jiggy are not like Randhir...they are really nice people...friendly, kind...not like Randhir...arrogant and rude..." Said Kaustuki
"Umm...well...Randhir is not all that bad...fine you two can date Parth and Jiggy...I don't have any problems..." Said Sanyukta trying to shift the conversation..
"Sanyu are you all right?..."Randhir is not that bad" all that ...whats the deal?" Vidushi said raising her brows..
"There is no deal or anything ...its just that...we have decided to start over..no more fights...be kind of like friends you know" Sanyukta said feeling awkward
Vidushi and Kaustuki stared at her their eyes almost falling out in surprise...
"Helloo...will you two say something?..." said Sanyukta impatiently when she saw her friends not giving any response... "Have I grown two horns or something, why the hell are you staring at me like that?" she said angrily
"not really...but the news you gave just now is enough to make us die of shock...why us? The whole FITE will die of shock...this is the news of the century...they worst enemies of FITE have become friends..." laughed Kaustuki
"oh! Wow ...what are these?..." said Vidushi...Sanyukta saw she was holding the three roses that she had kept on the table..
"Black, white and yellow...interesting combination...who gave these Sanyu?" asked Kaustuki noticing the colours of the roses..
"Umm ...err...Randhir gave me those..." Sanyukta said uncomfortably..
"seriously?...Randhir gave you those?...i heard he never ever gave roses to his girlfriend ...that Shanaya from Electronics also...and on the first day of your friendship with him ,he gave you roses...whats cooking?" teased Vidushi
"Shut up!...you two...nothing is cooking..." said Sanyukta in a huff...she felt her cheeks becoming warm...
Randhir walked towards his room still in thoughts about Sanyukta...he knew he has probably come a bit closer to winning his bet, for here he has already become friends with Sanyukta while Rehan has still not started...he smirked thinking this...on the other hand, his mind and heart were playing games with him...like how his mind refused to stop replaying how he had tucked Sanyukta's hair...how his hands brushed her skin...he could still feel the sensation of her smooth skin under his fingers...his heart craved to touch her once more... He feared the feeling, yet somewhere it excited him...
As he entered his room, he saw someone was already waiting for him, sitting on his bed...he knew exactly who he was ...he went towards him and said..." Look who is here...my dear brother..." he mocked ...
Rehan looked up at him and smiled ..." oh ...here you are...have been waiting for so long...just came to congratulate you...friends with Sanyukta and all...hmmm...nice move..." , he patted Randhir's shoulder
"I told you...winning over Sanyukta will be a piece of cake..." said Randhir arrogantly
"No need to boast little brother...celebrate the small victory...the day is not over yet..." Winked Rehan and walked out briskly from his room ...
