Hello all, welcome, suswagatam, aap sabko mera pranaam😛 for all those who wouldnt be knowing me, m Hiral and have been a regular IF-er in the past for shows like Balika Vadhu and Maharana Pratap😳 and since long havent found anything exciting enough to watch on Indian TV realtime and in came the news around ashoka's launch (read amidst quite a bit of controversy already😉) and chakravartin Samrat Ashok's promos😎
Now having watched contiloe's shows in the past - Aka veer shivaji, JKR and MP, ud have a fair idea of What to expect from its historicals
- great sets;
- glossy production values;
- uplifting background scores;
- perfect casting;
- enthralling fight sequences and stunts;
- great DOPs, camera work, direction, editing
and even more WHAT EXACTLY to not expect - PURE UNDISTORTED HISTORYthere will be
- fictional tracks with fictional characters, with fictional names with brain jamming fictional precision in the name of dramatization - which sometimes maybe entertaining but for most part would be a torture;
- there will be whitewashing and painting black of characters; and
- there will be lovetriangles/ quadrangles, which will go round and round in circle and saas-bahu or devrani-jethrani squabbles aka the kitchen politics, which may provide the spice, but for most part again, will assume more importance than the actual story
so this time around, we are prepared with loaded arms and ammunitions to watch their new offering.😎👏😆

considering there are some really huge names associated with the project and also since it is one of the most expensive shows of colors and PH both..there is significant buzz and expectations from this one...we have omung kumar and nitin desai as the set directors, we have ashok banker scripting it and also contiloe has a knack of making historicals, and so are the actors here - effective to say the least from the promos, ofcourse the one to look out for the most here, will be the child prodigy sidharth nigam who has already displayed his acting chops in movies and TV shows before. (boy whats with the six packs - for his age! that warrants a debate) but nonetheless he has expressive and fiery eyes!
Contiloe almost always never goes wrong with casting the parents of the main lead - sameer and pallavi look perfect for the role...and have the aura and personality to carry it off👏

Next up - the fundamental basis being set up to display ashoka's story = now as mentioned - there will be dramatizations and distortions - can someone throw light on - how much of truth could there be to ashoka actually fighting for dharma's rights? coz as far as Ive read and all the material Ive come across, there is no mention of dharma being wronged, yes she was called in into the palace later, but that seems to be before ashoka's birth...historical documents most definitely talk about ashoka-susima (bindusara's eldest son) rivalry and bindusara not being fond of ashoka coz of his rough skin.
Honestly to me, ashoka looks like an out and out ruthless and black character till the historical phenomenal turnaround and transformation and adoption of buddhism as his religion, but its evident, CVs want to paint ashoka as a grey shaded person, someone who was wronged his rights and the whole concept around women empowerment, by making his mother the one for whom he wants the world and restore all his rights...
leme just say that (not exactly comparing - but since CVs seem to be pulling a leaf or two from Pratap's/ ashoka's life - since they have made shows on them in the past),there are no records of great bonding between ashoka and his mother (atleast I havent come across), whereas in case of pratap and shivaji both, they are said to be closest to their mothers.
another point of debate- what exactly is with references to chanakya-ashoka meet - again no historical evidences seem to be there around it, at best there is reference to chanakya being bindusara's advisor, but if there really was a meet between chanakya and ashoka - it definitely was significant enuf to warrant some evidences for it?!😕
Nevertheless - lets see what CVs have cooked up for us this time round😛 hopefully it will be entertaining, if not exactly an educative, ride😉 😎
