A lot of ASR was the character itself and he did great justice to it. He has a lovely vulnerability coupled with a boyish charm which worked well with ASR and the character was built to boost him up. ASR made Sobti as much as Sobti made ASR.

He should make the most of television and his star power in that medium - look at the no of fans who have gone to see his movie and capitalise on that. There is a limited shelf life that every actor has and I am worried he might have frittered some of it already. As it is, it would be difficult to top an ASR!

But he is a sweet, decent human being and a good actor andI wish him all the success! May he find success in whatever he decides to do

I so fully agree on this.
i believe only die hard fans follow the forums and keep the flame alive..
keeping in touch with whats happening in their fav. stars professional life
otherwise most of the people move on to new serials and new channels.
he has talent which was realised on TV and that too after few of his shows failed to make mark.
even Saif Ali khan has reduced his rates lately to stay in his profession.
i really feel that Barun should consider small screen as well . fans can give him second chance but BW which involves lots of money cannot risk it after such a bad flop..John Abraham being the next hope..lets see if gold is struck..
dont want Barun to loose his shelf life running after this Mirage
success is success afterall whatever the medium is.

I fail to understand WHY did Barun leave IPKKND for this crap ? I am zapped. I was the single person in the hall & I was so scared of sitting alone ( anyone could have done anything to me ) that I had to stand next to the exit & watch the movie. Finally , I walked out coz how long can one stand near exit & watch.

Liked your post. However i go ahead a step and say i am very happy to see the film in theater than it being in a dabba.. there are many films they don't reach the theater. That kills many careers and bring negativity. I have always prayed for the movie to be released and as if film releases it is seen by people who write about it and we are so happy to see Barun being praised by all. Hit or flop doesn't matter film reaching theaters and being seen by people and then praises matters a lot.. Barun have arrived as MAMR hit cinemas so guys buck up don't cry on something which nobody could help. We Barun fans we have watched the movie and we are true followers of Barun and we have to agree that film is very bad if Barun is removed there is nothing in it.. Only Barun is holding all of us there so guys come on and continue doing our job of wishing our Hero the best for his coming projects and a great future ahead.. jo hona tha ho gaya we have to look ahead and love and pray and wish the best to BARUN SOBTI😊

DITTO 😃 Agree with u 200 percent.

I saw the film and I absolutely agree with everything you said.

As to why Barun chose this film, here's what I think happened:

The storyline, if you look at it in a broad sense...of a simple guy changing the lives of these perfect people - seems interesting. A lot could have been done with it. The script of the film therefore would have been good enough, which might be why Barun chose it in the first place. I know he should have considered some more factors before giving his nod, but it was his first film...and you can't know about details like execution and screenplay during that time.

The greatest flaw, in my opinion was in the execution and as the director says, the 'treatment' of the film. It was not handled well at all. The events seemed disjointed and did not flow smoothly.
What could have been an engaging tale about a guy who in his own sweet way, makes Aliya and her friends realize that in love and relationships, its the people who make it perfect ..not their right qualities - became a tale about Aliya and her loony friends who are dealing with their own problems, and blaming each other along the way.

The second problem was Barun's limited screen time. Again something Barun couldn't have known while reading the script and making his decision.
The scenes where he wasn't present were cringeworthy to say the least. They could have done wonders with Sukhi, given him a much stronger role. I found Sukhi's role to be passive...always in a way reacting to Aliya's actions. Did Sukhi have a single scene that had no Aliya or wasn't about her? No.
What is Sukhwinder Singh really like? Why does he hero-worship Salman? Why and when does he start falling in love with Aliya? What are his feelings when he sees her with Abhay?
We would never know.
The characterization for everyone as a matter of fact was so weak. Not once did I feel an ounce of sympathy for any one of Aliya's friends, or even Aliya. Infact I found myself laughing at the friends' funny habit of discussing all their problems on a dinner table for everyone to see and the weird Aliya-Abhay angle thrown in between. I see what critics meant by 'unintentionally funny'.
The only character worth watching was Sukhi's, but even he was let down after a point by the limited scope he was given.

The third problem, pitiable acting by the supporting cast. (Or were they?)
Each one of them had at least one standalone scene and not one did justice to it. I have never seen so much bad acting before. I would have still neglected this if their characters weren't given too much importance. But they were...especially in the second half. Barring three-odd scenes, they were everywhere and you couldn't stop yawning.
Shenaz too I felt could have done much, much better as Aliya. It was her movie through and through - yet she failed to make her character her own. Something Barun managed amazingly well even while he was given much fewer scenes in comparison.
This is where your prowess as an actor shows.
Again, he could not have anticipated at the time of reading the script that the supporting cast was going to be so bad.

Well, so we really cannot blame Barun for choosing the film at that stage. The guy wanted to do something different, and Sukhi was different in every sense from Arnav Singh Raizada. An actor requires creative satisfaction, and he got that with Sukhi, I guess.
Having said all that, I really really wish Barun had made his debut with a better film. Even though critics are all praises about his performance, these things tend to get overshadowed by the film's overall poor performance. I hope that doesn't happen with Barun and I hope people notice him - because he has done an outstanding job as Sukhi. He was exceptional in every scene and even that is an understatement. His honesty in playing Sukhi touched my heart. He deserves to get noticed. *fingers crossed*

wow, thank u so much, i really enjoyed reading ur thoughts. i dont know if we'll get an international release so i haven't seen the movie but i'm getting a good sense of what was right and wrong with it from all the in depth fan reviews. and i'm really glad that out of it all Barun did manage to make the role his and touch people as Sukhi even if he wasn't in as many scenes as expected 😊

Exactly!
All we wanted was to barun get noticed for his acting in bollyhood which happened.
It doesn't matter as long as barun is appreciated, i guess thats what all the sobtians wanted.

P.S : haven't watched the movie yet. But i'll surely do, only to see barun.
