It's their culture, tradition!!
Not only theirs, but we have this among Hindu Telugu people too.. although, in our community it happens between children of a brother and children of his sister.
On a personal level, one may not like to marry even the class fellows they grew up with, but, it's their culture, allowed in their religion.. like in our community, we are almost brought up with the idea of marrying one of our cousins, so, they're OK with it. There are even instances of romantic love brewing among cousins, as I have seen in my community.
EDIT : In my community, we do not call such cousins 'bhaiya', we have different 'names' for such rishtey 😆 that rishta itself is a different one (baava - maradalu) if anyone knows here.
