Going by Shlok's retrospection and determination in the middle of the road and his restrained annoyance in the precap instead of his usual Shlok style blow up, I think he took up the saree salesman job and he is keeping that truth from Aastha, as she might think that he deserves better. He may not reveal that to her anytime soon. He might have spent the money Aastha gave him, to buy an anniversary gift for her.
Aastha may think that she also needs to try for a job, as Shlok is having a tough time and she might find work with the new entry(Gaurav), who might be a rival to Shlok either in college or during Shlok's Mumbai days. There might be some old rivalry between these two, which may cause misunderstandings between Aastha and Shlok. Shlok might tell Aastha not to work with this guy as he knows that he is not a good guy, but Aastha might think that Shlok is telling her not to work with the guy because of his ego/pride/possessive nature. Just a guess.
