And I think it's commendable that BW stars have come together in this way to support the festival. This one discussion would have had no influence on the money made. They contributed on so many levels-the ad they did, the donations etc. Like AlooPoshto(dude. your new name is so tough to type😆) pointed out film students attended the event(Deepika said so in a video)-and they would have attended this talk minus Deepika also. Yes, popular faces will give a broader outreach. A separate panel starring Deepika would have served the purpose better, I guess.

For a festival to be of a international repute one need to give it a solid base in Mumbai or India. Which all the other festivals are the ones you mentioned. Take Cannes for example. They local government put so much money into arranging that festival. Here we are talking about "Reviving" this festival. This would not have happened if Anupama Chopra had not started the bring it back drive and worked hard towards it. did any of the art film maker or actors initiated this?

Like I pointed out what they've done is great. It's mainstreamed the whole fest and they deserve the praise. Just to add, Shyam Benegal heads MAMI-I'm sure he played a crucial role too. Art film makers are as Bollywood as the commercial ones-just with lesser money..so I guess with more money came greater responsibility:D

This was the first opening discussion and I am sure there will be many more. Deepika's and other young actors' presence had the channel telecasting it and reporting about it. Now the method actors or art film actors can have discussions at other events at the festivals.

What Sonam said and was bashed for was actually correct. Here today we are discussing why Deepika was invited just because she is a successful BO actress, young and beautiful. You want her to replaced by either Shabana Azamior Kalki who have done the artsy kind of movies but have never achieved a BO success proves the point that Sonam was making. If you are not good looking you get artsy movies and when you do artsy movies you get labelled as a great actor.😉

It is time that BO successful actors get respect in the so called Artsy movie world and festivals.

Even if that was the case, I'd still say Vidya would be a better choice than Deepika. But my first choice is Kalki-perfect balance of movie genres and also various mediums

Film festivals lose credibility when they become too commercial/mainstream. It's about arts not commerce. You don't see Angelina Jolie herself attend Cannes or other film festivals unless it's one of her off beat war films that's being showcased. Conducting panels for her is a far cry. But if Anupama Chopra did want to have a commercial actress be in the "master class" priyanka would have been better because she is more versatile and has an international image and more experience. She is also more critically acclaimed.
