This is NOT the Jai Ho! model. Just because Salman Khan appropriated the concept for his movie does not mean he owns it or should be credited for it.
This is called the "Pay It Forward Model" something that has been around since the pre WWI era. It was popularized again in 2000 by a novel and then a movie by the same name. It was then copied by South Indian film Stalin and most recently Salman Khan in India. The most recent phenomenon based on it was ALS Ice Bucket challenge.
Yes. Salman Khan probably deserves credit for popularizing the model in India. Modi most likely got the idea from the film (or viral success of Ice Bucket). Not stopping people from giving Kudos to Salman. But calling it the Jai Ho model is highly insensitive to people all around the world who have actually tried to initiate "Pay it Forward" projects in their communities.
Good idea by Modi. The man really knows to harness social media marketing. Looking forward to see the success of the initiative.
