Why do we become fans of a celebrity? We could go to Evolutionary Psychology and mention the human need to defer to people with social capital. Or we could go with simple gut-feel: the celebrity makes us feel good about something in our lives, evokes certain emotions that we want to replicate.

The person we're feting today, Mouni Roy, wears many celebrity hats: actor, TV host and dancer and so there are many reasons for us to be her fans!

Born on the 28th of September, the first girl in the extended family in 15 years, Mouni was brought up as the cherished darling of all. True to her Bengali roots, she excelled at her studies and many forms of art, music, dance, painting, pottery and puppetry. From the sheltered environs of a small town where she knew everyone, she bravely moved

to Big-bad-Delhi, for college. An audition, given on a whim, as entertainment on a boring evening, changed the course of her life.

Mouni got a role in a popular TV serial and moved to Mumbai, to take on Hindi TV!

The young and naive girl had her share of challenges in Mumbai but persevered, and is now a gorgeous, confident, talented woman, who has made her mark in a notoriously fickle industry as an excellent actor, dancer and host.

Mouni Roy was born on September 28, 1985 to Anil and Mukti Roy of Cooch Behar, West Bengal. She was brought up by a most loving family surrounded by music, dance and the arts. Her father Anil Roy is a very good tabla player and her mother a classical music lover and singer. With all these inherent artistic genes in the family, it's no wonder that Mouni is a natural with her own creative abilities. Her childhood was well-rounded with academics as well as extra-curricular activities such as formal dance lessons in the classical Kathak and Bharatanatyam dance forms, painting, sketching, pottery making etc. to name a few. Mouni is also a good singer and puppet maker. All these activities were provided to her as rewards for her good academic achievement and exemplary behavior with family, friends, relatives and teachers.

Mouni moved to Delhi for higher education and completed her undergraduate course work at Miranda House to receive a Bachelors degree in English Honors. She later completed her graduate coursework in Mass Communications and received a Masters degree from Jamia Milia Islamia University. All this was achieved to pave way for her dream as well as that of her father's, of becoming an officer in the Indian Administrative Services.

Mouni as an actor, elevates often overwrought story lines with her excellently emotive acting.

She depicts the right amount of joy, pathos, sorrow, anger or whatever else the scene requires, and makes us believe in the character no matter how unreal the plot! Blessed with most expressive eyes, she uses them to great advantage in her acting!

As a TV Host, she is relaxed and friendly before the cameras, has the ability to keep the conversation going with whoever she

is talking to and makes interviews interesting and fun to watch.

As a dancer: Ah as a dancer! She was known for some skill in Kathak which she used beautifully in her shows: her dances in her TV serials are favorites years after the fact, and uploads of some of her stage performances have views in the thousands.

However, her recent stint on a dance reality show has elevated her dancing to a new level. She has picked up new styles of dance, and a newfound confidence in her abilities to take on challenging styles of dance on a public platform. She's extremely graceful in her dancing, even the most energetic forms don't look like acrobatic! She has always stated that dance is her first love, and it shows in the way she subsumes herself in it.

As if all this were not enough, Mouni has more skills up her sleeve! She's a very decent artist, as evidenced by the pictures of her paintings that she posts on Instagram. She sings very well too - not at a professional level, obviously, but she has a beautiful voice and good musical knowledge. And to top it off, this very talented woman is also a voracious reader! She often posts on social media about books she's reading and solicits recommendations! Where she finds the time, we don't know, the day still has only 24 hours, last time we checked!

With all these accomplishments, and the pressures that are common to any celebrity, she would be forgiven for being aloof, but Mouni is nothing of the sort. Her sweet nature is legendary - she's a classic "giver", generous with friends and fans. Free of the

territoriality that plagues many celebrities, she is open about her admiration for others' skills and is a friend to manywho might be rivals in another context! (Witness her open campaigning for another contestant on the recent reality show)

She is friendly and open with us fans (who can be rather terrifying!) interacting on social media as time permits .

Mouni started her career in Television, in 2007, as Krishna-Tulsi (KT) in the popular, long-running serial
Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi on Star Plus.Mouni, who auditioned on a whim, did not try out for the role of KT,
instead, she auditioned for a grey role on the show, that of Bhoomi - however, Ekta Kapoor saw the qualities she
wanted of KT in her, and the rest is history! She achieved a good deal of popularity via this show and
is still associated with "KT" many years after the show ended.

In 2008, Mouni made a name for herself in reality shows on various channels. She participated
shows such as the new singing reality show, Say Shava Shava, on NDTV Imagine, Kaho Na Yaar Hai,
a Friendship based reality show on Star Plus and Tyohaar Dhamaka, a dance reality show on 9X.
While she was eliminated quite early on in Shava Shava, Mouni was part of the winning team of
Tyohaar Dhamaka.

After the ending of Kyunki, Mouni took a break from daily soaps, as the grueling schedules had taken a toll.
She moved back to her first love, dance, becoming part of the first season of a show called Zara Nachke Dikha.
Mouni was part of the girls' team, who were the winners in season 1. She also won the Airtel Best Dancer of the Series
for her part in the show.

Her next foray was a reality show, Pati Patni aur Woh, which is the Hindi version of BBC3 Production,
The Baby Borrowers. After this, sge moved to yet another aspect of television: anchoring.
She hosted Tellytalk on Zoom TV, where her ease and
friendliness before the cameras stood her in good stead.She also had a short stint as a host of Comedy Nights Teen ka Tadka
on Sony TV.

Mouni has ventured into movies with a Punjabi movie, Hero Hitler in Love, where she played Sahiban, the female lead.

Though KT established Mouni in the world of Television, it was her role as Sati in Devon ke Dev Mahadev on LifeOK that is
the crowning glory of her career. With the advantage of an author-backed role behind her, and her excellent emotive
skills, Mouni's Sati took the TV-viewing world by storm. Her portrayal of the pampered princess who falls in love
with the Vairagi Shiva, and marries him in the teeth of parental opposition, her depiction of falling in love,
her confusion and sorrow at her family's opposition, her fight to be able to marry the man she loves,
her despairing surrender to her father's wishes, and finally her recognition of her true self as Adi-Shakti and her
death were all so well done, it is unsurprising that it is as Sati that she is most beloved, with fan clubs devoted to
her portrayal and an immense fan following dating from then, despite her portion of the show running only six months.
The show was dubbed into multiple Indian languages, resulting in new fans each time, and most recently, has taken
Indonesia by storm.

After Mahadev, Mouni went on to play Meera in the show Junoon - Aisi Nafrat Toh Kaisa Ishq, also on LifeOK. She was very
as Meera but the show ended abruptly.

Mouni's latest onscreen appearance was on the Season 7 of Jhalak Dikhlaja on Colors TV. Paired with Punit Pathak as choreographer, she
went from strength to strength in the show. She was appreciated multiple times by the judges, awarded the Golden Shoes
for consistent performances, and the Immunity Ball. To the great joy of her fans she was one of the four finalists and finished the
show as third runner up.

Krishna Tulsi: Mouni became the regular face of each household of this nation during her debut role as Krishna Tulsi aka KT in the famous daily soap 'Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi' on Star Plus. She played the role of a small town innocent girl who eventually came to Mumbai and fell in love with the heir of Virani family Lakshya Virani. But later due to some unpleasant circumstances she was forced to married Eklavya and later her role was ended. But the audience liked her character and portrayal very much.

Mouni gets her much deserved and awaited recognisation, appreciation and accolades from the critics and audience with her role as Devi Sati in famous ongoing mythological show 'Devon ke dev...Mahadev' on Life OK. She wins and rules many hearts of this nation with her beautiful portrayal of Princess Sati, Prajapati Daksh's youngest and dearest daughter, who fell in love in her youth of a hermit named Shiva--Lord of lords, the destructive form of God, who turned into a householder later after marrying her. She has been shown as Adi Shakti, the primal and supreme energy and the ultimate form of Goddess as well in the show. During her whole portrayal she lived the character and left such a great impact on her viewers mind that she has been brought back again in that very same show as Sati in a small part named 'Sati Rahasya' of the 'Kalachakra' or Time cycle track. Though this track was ended haphazardly but her presence and chemistry with her co-star Mohit Raina once again created the same magic as earlier.
People still very fondly refer her as 'Sati' off-screen for her wonderful acting.

After her amazing performance as Sati she was offered the role 'Meera' a city girl who was married away in her childhood to a village boy named Prithvi by her father. To save her, her mother fled from the village with her and settled in the city. Later Meera discovered about her father and her marriage and decided to give it a try...and fell in love with Prithvi. The characterization of Meera was pulled out by Mouni with excellence and ease. She played a bubbly, 'happy-go-lucky', sweet-natured Miu (Meera's nickname) and a fierce, indignant and strong Meera at a time perfectly. But due to a personal reason she had to leave the show for a time being and from there the story went to the path of disaster and it was ended soon after her return.

Mouni has a long time dream since she has joined the industry, to participate in the prestigious competition 'Jhalak Dikhlaa Jaa'. She along with her choreographer partner Punit J Pathak showcased her dancing talent once again before the nation in the famous, glamorous dance reality show 'Jhalak Dikhlaa Jaa--Season 7' on Colors TV. They had attempted and pulled out successfully the dance forms---- Free Style, Contemporary, Jazz, Broadway Jazz, Afro Jazz(with choreographer partner Dipak during choreographer swap challenge), Hip-hop, Robotics, Contortion, Paso Doble, Bolero, Tango, Tandav, Kathak, Sufi and mixed Indian Classical, Broadway Freestyle, A Blindfold Freestyle, Bollywood and in super finale she performed Indian Folk. She won 'Golden Dancing Shoes'; 'Golden Immunity Ball' and 'The Best Performer-female' for her expressive dance skills along with very rave critical acclaim and accolades from the 3 judges Remo D'Souza, Karan Johar, Madhuri Dixit and International Choreographer Maxim Smorvski(was judge for 2 episodes Western and Indian Style) and Ganesh Hegde(for semifinal). Also she has huge popularity amongst her fans, who voted for her continuously during the show. Though the Critics found her promising to win the Trophy of "Jhalak Dikhlaa Jaa--Season 7' she was eliminated from the 1st round of Super Finale. While she was leaving the stage Remo gave her a standing ovation to regard her whole Jhalak journey outstanding and confirming that "when she entered the competition she was a good dancer. After the Jhalak, she is a great dancer and This Is It," Karan Johar called her a Diva, a Star and affirmed her that she gets love from all the nation and from all the judges, Madhuri simply came down from her judge seat and gave her a warming embrace and Ranvir Shorey, one of the host of Jhalak Dikhlaa Jaa 7, who is also a famous actor, referred her as "truly the Goddess." She also stated she got so many things from this entire journey of Jhalak Dikhlaa Jaa7' a old friend Shakti Mohan with whom she went to college in Delhi and a new friend for a life time, her choreographer partner Punit J Pathak. She also made some good friends in Jhalak platform too.

Mouni Roy is a package of multi-talent. From acting to art to singing to dance. She's good at EVERYTHING... =)

Kasturi: During her portrayal as KT in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Mouni played the character Shivani Sabhrawal, sister of the male lead Robbie Sabhrawal. Though her role initially indicated she was love interest of Raunak, she turned to a negative one and plotted against the protagonist Kasturi. After that she lost her mental balance and sent to asylum but brought back by the protagonist Kasturi later. Her role ended after that. But she proved her forte playing two opposite shade of character at a time.

Do Saheliyan: Mouni played a cameo Roop for 2 episodes in this show. She was a simple rustic Rajput girl who fell in love of a low-caste man, Badri and later eloped and married with him.
After that she acted as cameo or in small roles in many serials like 'Ssshh koi Hai' etc. and took part in many award functions, reality shows as dancer and hosted 'Telly Talk' of Zoom TV.

Zara Nachke Dikhaa--Season 1: After her tasting the name and fame as KT, Mouni participated in the dance reality show 'Zara Nachke Dikhaa--Season 1' from the girls team "Meethi Chudi" on Star One. Throughout the competition she showed skills in dancing by attempting various dance forms i.e. Kathak, Contemporary, Odishi etc. and successfully executed them. She was declared as the most consistent performer of that competition and won the 'best dancer' s prize-- Rs/-1 lakh.

Say Shava Shava!

Say Shava Shava: Mouni participated in a singing competition show Say Shava Shava' on NDTV Imagine. She reached to the quarter final and then got eliminated.

That magic. .that feeling I get in my heart of some emotion wanting to explode...that's only a part of what I feel when I watch Shiv and Sati *_* These 2 characters, and the people playing these characters, i.e. Mohit and you, have truly influenced my life and I hold you people with high esteem. The kind of person I am right now, is partly due to Mohit and you. You may not now it, you guys have influenced many of your fans (in a good way!) :)
