CHAPTER 1
Arnav could not sleep.
Events in the recent months at brought him to a personal crossroad, at which he had acted with innate decisiveness, he had stripped the chaff from his life in order to focus his energy to what really mattered.
while he had worked tirelessly to become an extraordinarily a wealthy tycoon, he had put next to no work at all into his private life. The only close friend he still trusted was Akash, the cousin he had grown up with. He'd had many women to his bed, he was 33 years old, and had never even come close to marrying.
What did that say about him, was he commitment phobe or a natural loner? Exasperated by the constant flow of thoughts that had recently dogged him, because all his life to this date he had been a doer, rather than a thinker: a great sportsman, a dynamic cold blooded business man. Giving up on his sleep he strode through his magnificent villa, impervious to the opulent traping of the billionaire's lifestyle that had lately come to mean so little to him.
As he had admitted to Akash, by this age he would have liked to have had a child, only not with the kind of women who cared more about money. For such a women shall raise his child with the same self - seeking values.
"but its not too late to start a family" Akash had cleared with conviction. "NOTHING IS SET IN STONE ARNAV, DO AS YOU WANT, NOT THE WAY YOU THINK YOU SHOULD,"
Hearing the shrill of his cell phone, Arnav headed back, wondering which of his staff thought necessary to call him in the middle of the night. But there was nothing frivolous about this call from Aman who had called to tell him that he had just been robbed, the show stopper's dress for the upcoming bridal show arranged two months from now, had been stolen, from the lucknow AR office. The most significant fact was , Arnav himself had designed it. Those intricate diamond studded embroidery,on the borders made it stupendous piece of art that was supposed to be worn by his would be wife, if ever he would marry. And apparently the theft had been an inside job.
he didn't get mad, he got even. He paid his employees handsomely and treated them well and in return he expected loyalty. When the guilty was finaly identified, Arnav would ensure that the full weight of law was brought to bear on him.
But, within a few minutes his outrage and annoyance subsided to a bearable and grim smile began to tug at his hansome mouth as he contemplated hid now inevitable visit to his beautiful lucknowi home and office. There he would undoubtedly now run into the very beautiful daughter of Shashi Gupta who handled his work in lucknow.
And unlike the many he had known and deemed, his lucknowi girl did rejoice in unique quality: staying aloof, cold and unaffected also towards him. For Arnav who was by nature fiercely competitive. She had always been a mystery.
claded in yellow churidaar with her long dark curly hair caught up in a practical ponytail, Khushi turned around answering her father's call.
"I need to talk to you you will be away at your friend's place and you are often on duty in evenings at weekends" he said gruffly and and something odd in his voice made her lift her head, her unusually brown eyes questioning.
she frowned because the older man looked pale and strained." What happened" she prompted in dismay.
her father looked up, his brown eyes full of guilt and anxiety. "I, have done something stupid, really really stupid. I am sorry to bring this to you but I have no other option"
"what so happened dad..?"
"The bridal dress that ASR left here, has been stolen. That weekend day I had handed the keys of office to the sub ordinate shyam, as I hav often done without thinking of the consequences; that evening a reporter had to come to take shoots for the show sponsers, as I trusted Shyam I thought he would handle it all, but after that day he along with the dress is no where to be seen. And no one even knows about the reporter or any shoots. My job is at risk now. Till last monty when you helped me with all the accounts it worked so easily for me, you left working with us, I have failed in completing my job as a loyal employee. ASR will be arriving lucknow tomorrow itself. I have no justifications to give from my side. I feel helpless. It was my responsibity to keep the media away, and look after that pricely possession if AR office in lucknow. He would probably leave me to die in jail, if he in anyway finds the truth out"
Khushi had no words of comfort to offer the future did indeed look bleak. She herself stood confused and amazed at what Shyam bhaiya did. He was a simple man. This was not entirely fault of her dad, and somewhere she knew, he must have exaggerated ASR's strength when he uttered the last line. Should she approach the great ASR and tell him about it.
