IT'S finally happening tonight. After weeks of speculation about the fate of Tulsi Virani, nee Smriti Irani, Ekta Kapoor is bumping her off. It isn't the lung cancer, but a tragic accident that does it.

For Smriti, letting go of her vermilion-laden, sari-clad, mother-of-all-bahus nemesis will not be easy. "I am Smriti because of Tulsi. She gave me personality. Let's hope she rests in peace," the actor says whimsically, while in the midst of a shoot. "There will be no reincarnations; the character has aged and Kyunkii has moved beyond Tulsi now." Smriti quickly adds she's quite excited about Ugraya, her production company which makes Thodisi Zameen Thodasa Aasman and Virrudh, both primetime shows on Sony. "We all have to take on different roles in life, and producing a soap is quite exciting," she adds. "Of course the workload is double, but I feel creatively more satisfied now."
