this story is inspired by a book i read recently called *VERONICA DECIDE MORRER* (veronica decides to die in English) authored by internationally acclaimed author PAULO COELHO. i would advice you to read this book ... if you have read this book already then please ignore this message ------------

i would like to thank mr coelho for writing such an amazing story which inspired me a LOT ... my sissy pariha khaana ... my bff Iqra sharma ... and my bgf crayan nehra for being my side no matter what the condition is ... for always supporting me and for making my life beautiful with their mere presence ... i love you guys more than a lot

PLOT OF THE STORY :- is life always worth living ?

Twenty-two-year-old sanyukta Agarwal seems to have everything -- youth and beauty, boyfriend and a loving family, a fulfilling job. But something is missing in her life. So, one cold November morning, she takes a handful of sleeping pills expecting never to wake up. But she does -- at a mental hospital where she is told that she has only days to live. now that she is about to die in few days she decides to live the life she always wanted to and to do the things which she didn't earlier due to fear of society .

sanyukta Decides to Die questions the meaning of craziness and celebrates individuals who do not fit into patterns society considers to be normal.

PROLOGUE :-

sanyukta was lying on the hospital bed reading one the books

kept on the side drawer . leafing through the pages she found a

story on NARCISSUS . she already knew the legend of narcissus , a youth who knelt beside a river each day just to contemplate his own beauty . he was so fascinated with himself that one morning he fell in the lake and drowned . The spot where he fell a new flower was born and was named NARCISSUS.

but this wasn't how the author ended the story .

He said that when narcissus died the goddesses of forest appeared and found the lake , which had been fresh water , transformed into a pool of salty tears .

why do you weep ? the goddess asked

i weep for NARCISSUS the lake said .

no wonder we've heard that narcissus was very beautiful ! the

goddess said

but was Narcissus beautiful ? the lake asked

who better than you know this after all it was beside you that he

knelt each day to contemplate his beauty . the goddess said .

the lake fell silent for some time . finally it said :

" i weep for narcissus , but i never noticed he was beautiful . i weep because , each time he knelt beside my banks , i could see , in the depth of his eyes , my own beauty reflected. "

"what a lovely story ," sanyukta thought .

CHAPTER 1 :

On November 25 2013 ,

sanyukta decided that the moment to kill herself had ---------- at last !! --------------arrived ! she carefully cleaned her room , turned off the heater , brushed her teeth and lay down .

She picked up the 4 packs of sleeping pills from beside the table . instead of crushing them and mixing them with water she decided to take them one by one , because there is a gap between intention and action , and she wanted to feel free to turn back halfway . however with each pill she consumed she was even more convinced . after five minutes the packs were empty .

She did not know how long it will take her to get unconscious and die away. she had placed on the bed that month's issue of a Swedish magazine *LAI!ka* which had just arrived in the library of the university she worked in .

she had no particular interest in fashion but as she leafed through the pages she found an article on how to keep your skin healthy during winters .

Sanyukta was reading about fashion , a subject in which she was not a least bit interested . but then that was in keeping with what she did all her life , always looking up for easy options , for whatever was nearest at hand ,like the magazine for example .

she read the question in the readers sections which was beneath the article

by one of the reader named *Caroline brianskij*... the question was : *WHERE IS INDIA*

* honestly ! there are people who don't even know where is INDIA ... she thought .

she kept the magazine on one side . there was no point in putting up with a magazine the readers of which did not even know where India is ! it had got nothing to do with her nation's honour . it was time to feel proud on herself !

she was happy that she could finally do it ! ... she had the courage and was leaving her life ! also , she was doing it , just the way she wanted to -------------- by taking sleeping pills , which leave no mark .

sanyukta had been trying to get hold of sleeping pills for nearly 6 months . thinking that she would never manage to , she even considered slashing her wrist . but there was a problem she did not wanted the carpets of her room to be stained by her blood ... it will take much of mom's time in cleaning them ... the stain ,maybe would not get washed at all ... this created another problem ... if her parents decide to rent the room after her death it won't be an easy task . no one would like to live in a room with blood stained carpets ... we may be in 21 st century but people still believe in ghosts ! also slashing the wrist would also cause a little pain... considering these problems she dropped her idea of slashing her wrist ..

obviously she could have thrown herself off one of those big buildings in Delhi .. but what about the further sufferings it would cause to her parents ? apart from the shock of learning that their daughter had died ... they would have to face a disfigured corpse . beside that if she is still alive after the fall , she would get admitted to the hospital . she would die eventually but before that the doctors would perform a surgery which would cost a lot to her parents . that was a worse solution than bleeding to death . she thought !

they would get used to their daughter's death eventually but it must be impossible to forget a shattered skull !

shooting , jumping off a high cliff , hanging , none of these options suited her feminine nature . women when they kill themselves choose far more romantic ways ------ like slashing the wrist or taking an overdose of sleeping pills . abandoned princesses and Hollywood actresses have provided numerous examples of this .

Sanyukta knew that life was always a matter of waiting for the right moment to act . she was glad that she could finally take those pills and was bored because she did not know what to do with the little time she was left with . she thought about the question again .how could someone not know where India is ! that girl must be such a fool . but that wasn't her problem .

sanyukta was dying and had other concerns , such as , wondering if there was life after death or when her body would be found . nevertheless ---- the question bothered her .

it was then that sanyukta found a way of passing time , now that 10 minutes had gone and there was no sign of any physical change .

the final act of her life would be to write a letter to the magazine explaining them about India and Indians . the latter would be her suicide note as well . she would give no explanation of the real reason for her death .

when they will find her body they will conclude that she died because of a question in a magazine from a reader who did not even know where her country was . she laughed to think about what controversy her suicide would create in the news papers and television , they will have debates with some for and some against her suicide committed in honour of her country's cause .

she wrote the letter . the moments of good humour almost made her have second thoughts about the need to die . but she had already taken the pills , it was too late to turn back .
