Life in a Metro a movie directed by Anurag Basu…is a movie which likes its tag line successfully narrates many emotions people in a metro like Mumbai face during their daily grind. Now the emotions are based on love in all its forms. Many other movies have been made on this urban theme but this one differs and also excels in the way the movie is so deftly handled.
The movie revolves around 7 people living in Mumbai and how their life goes through different twists and turns.
In a nut shell people seem to be connected to each other but not really knowing or realizing it. Each living his own space and happiness and hardly bothered by others presence. People having affairs and not even their room mates know about it like the case of Kay Kay having an affair with his sister-in-laws room mate and his sister-in-law has no clue about it, well certainly not before much water has spilled…sorry for the pun as the movie shows Mumbai infested with rain…
The movie successfully has woven a story of people connected to each other for the sake of love or security. Extra marital affairs are the new 'in thing' in movies these days and here is another movie which explores the subject deeper. Sorry for the pun again. The movie also has shown quiet boldly about a live in arrangement between old heart throbs who meet after 40 years of separation played by Nafisa Ali and Dharam Paaji.
The movie also boasts a first of its kind which is the music. The singers are also a part of the movie and this I feel didn't really click well. I prefer the old style of musicians staying in the background and it didn't really seem to do any good. The music is good though and seems well woven in the story.
The movie apparently doesn't seem to have many flaws which is a definitely plus point and all the actors and actresses are good except for Dharmendra paaji. He seems out of place and if I was in charge of the casting I would have definitely gone for Naseeruddin Shah or Boman Irani. Nafisa still looks stunning and Shilpa after her Big Brother success was promoted as the main heroine but thank god she isn't. Konkona sen is a charming actress and slips into any role with definet ease. Here too she delivers an astounding performance and so has Irfaan Khan. He simply excels in these roles. In the movie he plays a working unmarried male looking for a life partner on matrimonial site. He plays this role to perfection and also makes us laugh by his earthy touch towards life. Kay Kay is his usual self and seems ok. He needs to add more variety to his acting or chances are he might end up repeating himself which is not good for an actor of his caliber. Shiny Ahuja plays the role of a looser pretty well and seems one for real.
The movie is a definitely watchable and I strongly recommend this to all who want to feel the urban life with much salt and pepper.
